Which would be the best route to follow in order to fine-tune knowledge on both 1) Navigation and the instrumentation, as well as 2) the Approach function on landing.
Is there special training for this - besides Flight Sim's in-house, please.?  Ivao has something but it seems to be more on ATC.?

Try the X-IFR Series here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showforum=90

APPR isn't covered there -yet- I think.

However the rule is tune your nav radio(s), intercept ILD at less than 30 degrees. Once the ILS you're looking for is detected (as shown on instrumentation/glass), press APP on autopilot. AP will then lock onto ILS and take you down.

For CAT III landings, on both Boeing and Airbus, I believe you must activate both autopilots (eg CMD A and CMD B) simultaneously. More details are specific to type / aircraft / autopilot.
