Welcome to our Summer 2009 event
The US Airmail Pioneers Transcontinental Trip!

This event represents the route of the aviation pioneers in the United States. In the 1920's commercial aviation history started with the Air Mail Service in the United States. Within 5 years, a massive route network had been established to deliver mail cargo all across the USA. The favourite, most dangerous route was from New York - San Francisco crossing the continent from East to West. The route consisted of 16 legs taking in several major cities on the way, including Cleveland, Chicago and Salt Lake City.

The pioneers used the quite slow Curtiss Jenny, then later the faster DeHavilland DH-4 aircraft for these VFR flights. The route took several days to complete at the airspeeds possible at that time. EuroHarmony pilots can use the FS2004 default Douglas DC-3 Dakota or the Junkers JU-52 (for FS2004 and FSX) in the early 1930's EuroHarmony livery or the payware MAAM-SIM DC-3 (FS2004 & FSX). Each of the quite long legs takes 2 hours at most with these relatively fast aircraft, therefore expect longer flight times than on the regular EuroHarmony VFA tours.

You can download the DC-3 Dakota FROM HERE and the Junkers JU-52 FROM HERE . The leg distances in the above chart refer to the total distance of the detailed flightplans which have been designed to make this Event more realistic. If you fly the tour directly from destination to destination (via GPS Direct), the flight distance is shorter by about 5 to 10 miles for each leg. You can download all the flightplans FROM HERE . Or you can follow written instructions on the FOLLOWING PAGE, that looks something like the pilots had back in the 20's. Bellefonte airport was replaced by University park, which is only 2nm from it, and more suitable for the DC-3 operations.
