New online network
EHM-1703 Philip:
Certainly being fairly new to all this.... (8 weeks now!) I have tried both. I use with IVAO and am planning to stick with them. I have tried Vatsim on 4 occasions, each time being barked at by ATC, two of wich were because said ATC had given wrong instructions. That's enough for me. I have uninstalled SB3, FSINN and AVC. I will take a little less realism, after all, even though we want it "As Real As It Gets" we are not on RL Airline Pilot wages! This is where I announce my intention to continue furthering my knowledge and also take a look at the ATC side of things. (Who Knows, one day it could be Ben handing you off to me at Heathrow! GOD HELP US ALL!)
Cheers,
Phil
EHM-0502 Desmond:
I started off on Vatsim, but now fly almost exclusively on IVAO, mainly because there is no Vatsim coverage here in South Africa. IVAO is strong here. I have also started controlling here, and the IVAO guys are really helpful and supportive. Vatsim is a lot more strict, which makes it harder for new pilots to learn the procedures for online flying.
For my EHM flights I use mainly IVAO.
I still do fly on Vatsim - there is a nice group flight every Saturday evening which I try and do.
EHM-1703 Philip:
Ok, here's a little statistical trivia for you! The companies top 10 active pilots have flown over 8262 hours between them. Of this only 1079 and a half hours has been online. This means roughly 13% of their flights are performed online. Is this because they can't decide which network to fly on? Could it be because flying online is actually unrealistic. There is so little traffic compared to RL. Maybe they would rather fly with limited FS2004 ATC and more realistic traffic rather than fly on a network where there may be a human controller if they are lucky but virtually no traffic. I think the Network that will win this battle is the one that manages to integrate some sort of AI traffic/ATC in to it's network to give us operations that mirror RL air traffic. More holds, Approach Stacks, Airspace Conflicts and Emergencies. Maybe Armando could work on this after he completes Pro Pilot! Hehehe :]
My idea for the future!
"Welcome to OUR Network! In this network all commercial aicraft that are not EHM get a fighter escort to the nearest Military Airbase or risk being taken out! It will also go by the name of 3 and be run by stupid animated Pandas and Turtles that have huge phones and commit suicide in commercials!" (Sorry probably a UK joke, its a Mobile Phone Networks marketing campaign in the UK):8 EDIT After some research it would seem that 3 do have Global Operations. It seems the Danish, Swedish, Italian, Irish, Australian, Austrian and Hong Kong based pilots also have to put up with these annoying commercials!
EHM-0654 Murray:
Phil,
Good joke ;D
Regarding AI traffic online, IVAO *are* working on this, for the purposes of ATC/pilot training. It's called HAL and is used during exams and training sessions. I've not "played" with it myself (all looks a little too confusing for my poor brain) but I understand it works quite well.
EHM-1617 Iain:
Hehehe... take a peek at some of the IvAc radar screenshots with HAL sessions in progress... the mind boggles... R/L traffic levels...
