Below is a mail from Mr Luis Graça PT-EC and Paulo Pinto  PT-EAC. For more information, monitor http://www.ivaopt.org .

      Dear Sirs,

As many of you should know by now, Portugal will be the host of the European
Championship 2004 that will take place between 12th June and 4th July. This is
the biggest and most important sport event organized by the UEFA and will
gather 16 international football teams that will compete to win this
prestigious football trophy. As you can imagine, this event will produce an
abnormal amount of air traffic flying to and from our country, as logistic and
supporters need to be transported. We, at IVAO-PT, would like to emulate this
reality by providing an event that, with your cooperation and interest, should
become one of the biggest events in our airspace in terms of duration and
countries involved.

Sixteen countries will compete in the European Championship 2004:

- Portugal (host)
- France
- Sweden
- Czech Republic
- Greece
- England
- Italy
- Germany
- Spain
- Croatia
- Denmark
- Netherlands
- Russia
- Switzerland
- Bulgaria
- Latvia

Ten football stadiums should become the field of the competition and they are
located in all the three main land areas of Portugal (North, Center and
South). Three international airports are ready for this event, as well as some
military bases that will serve as alternate airports and/or parking
facilities.

We encourage all the VA's and IVAO members of the participant countries to
join this international event, by planning their flights in order to provide
the virtual airspace with the most realistic environment possible, simulating
the flights that will take the supporters and logistics to Portugal during the
schedule days of the competition. We, at IVAO-PT, will provide all the
necessary ATC service and domestic flights, contributing to the "heavy skies"
that we all hope for this event and making this a participated one. But
remember that this will be a ruled event, with a slot system and schedule
flights, as this is the way we found to be the most realistic.

All the information will be presented in our webpage at http://www.ivaopt.org
in a short period of time. There, you'll find the Competition's Event Site
with all the information that pilots will need, such as Calendar (this will
determine the flight schedule), the list of airports and preferred routes for
the flight-plans, the slot system and many other information regarding the
event.

Keep an eye in this event and enjoy it. Come fly to the IVAO Network.

      Best Regards

      IVAO-PT

      Luis Graça PT-EC

      Paulo Pinto  PT-EAC
