First of all, if you don't install AFCAD files, there won't be as many planes as in the screenshots... default AFCAD layouts of the airports have just a few gates, and in FS2002 only one rwy is active at a certain time.
Second, you need the AFCAD program (v1.4) for FS2002 to install the new files you download from the Internet, or edit the layouts by yourself.
For FS2004, you don't need the AFCAD program (only v2.20 or higher work for FS2004), as the files you download are already bgl's... you would only need it if you want to edit the layouts yourself...

Sounds odd, but makes sense ;)

Yeah I understand what you are saying, with the default amount of parking there won't be as many aircraft in the first place. I just meant that because there is usually only one runway open as default, you get the problem of aircraft unable to take off because of landing traffic all the time and the FS ATC unable to cope properly.

Obviously if you use afcad you can change it to have more than one runway operating. :)

If you use ProjectAI its better to update your airports with as many parking spots as possible. If not you can easily get a situation like I did:

After landing at Zurich the ground could not give me taxi clearance because there was not any free spots. After I installed a modified AFCAD fior Zurich I had incredible high amount of traffic, but I could park with my plane ;)

I installed FS2004 last night and made just a few flights... but it appears to me that the ATC doesn't use just one rwy... can anyone confirm?

With the modified AFCAD filed you will have more parking spaces, but unfortunantly also pretty low frame-rates if you have a slow computer (like me for instance :[)... but you can adjust the amount of AI traffic in the settings...
