Stunning. Is anybody else panicking that this might be a 'dumbing down' in order to appeal to a bigger gaming market? This might be the last one that is windows only ... bet the next one comes out on XBox too ;)

Actually, probably find it merges with a first person shooter and the oil rig has been taken over by some alien invading force. If you can't save the person in time you have to jump out of the helicoptor (by pressing the L1 button) and enter the oil rig for a coupld of levels of FPS mayhem!

It won't come out on Xbox, but you can use the controller.

...i think Phil was Joking Tim...
However I do worry that if it is more game like, then new people will come online at IVAO, and spoil it for the realistic simmers....

They won't find it.;D

I think it will remain a simulation, but Microsoft are showing the game part of it to the gaming community, as there are more people there than just flightsim. And they are working closly with add-on developers.

Wow, stunning video...

As far as the oil rig, that will probably attract FPS gamers because of the action, but I don't think they'll be very interested in the rest of the game because flight simulation just doesn't provide the fast paced action they want. If the only thing they buy FS X for is that particular helicopter mission, they'll be sorely disappointed and will most likely return the game :). Those who actually find the simulation part interesting might join a VA, (maybe even EHM!!) and they might discover a hobby... Tim's right, FlightSim developers had to show the fun part of it because if they showed a trailer with just a hang glider or a cessna flying around mountains, that wouldn't be very interesting, now would it? ;D

FSX is slated to be extremley mission driven. There will be far more missions or "Adventures" included. What this means for the core simmers who knows, but I don't personally think that the simulation will take a step backwards to entice the fast action gamers, I think it is aimed at the simmers who want to do more than fly A to B.

Lets face it, how many of us use FS Passengers? This is the first step towards us being mission based and having performance goals. I love to fly, so this morning when flying a quick hop from Manchester to London in an A320, everything was going fine and my 45 minute flight was going to be a doddle. Then on finals, as I got to the outer marker my gear jammed on the left side....... I had never had this before and now my First Officer is telling me to land and shake it lose! So I did, and bumped the ground 4 times on my first attempt at landing, no joy... We go around and I am trying to pump it to no avail. I try the shake it lose manouver again and the First Officer tells me to try landing harder! WHAT???? Are you crazy I am thinking! But what did I have to lose? I only have enough fuel for one more go around so I pulled back hard (Scraping the tail) and then pushed forward, sure enough he tells me it was succesful and I ground to a halt about 15 ft short of the end of 27R at EGLL. It was GREAT! And it was all online on IVAO. If FSX has more of this type of thing right out of the box, I can't wait. Bring it on Microsoft! (and on time PLEASE!!!!)

Holiday period 2006 is the preliminary release date. (The Windows Vista delay may or may not delay FSX)

I think they mean the June - July period (New Zealand holidays are different, but the American summer vacation begins about that time)...

Perhaps they are going for a release date in the fall November. So it will be linede up for the chrismas shopping. Release in the is a dead duck, a lot of flightsimmers are not that activ in the summer. But perhaps they should go for summer release, then theres a chance that it will be released in the fall. I'm sure that it will be delayed just like most of Microsofts other products are.

Hello! I'm new!

I love all the onground scenery, such as the elephants, the cars in the airport, the trees, the buildings. The water was fantastic!
The helicopter even had Euroharmony's livery!

Thanks! I really like it here!
I'm a bit worried whether FSX might actually work on the computers though. Mine looks like one more click of the mouse and it will explode.

You will need a really decent computer, even I would need a total upgrade!

And all these videos and promos were using DirectX 9, so just think, it should look way better!

Hi Guys, I know this is probably going over old ground but here are the best resources for FSX information at the moment:

http://www.fsinsider.com/articles/FSX_Press_Release.htm
http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/feature/firming.htm
http://blogs.technet.com/p-12c_pilot/default.aspx

When it was announced at the CES in January, it was touted for Holidays 2006, I am sure a lot of our American freinds will back this up, but this generally means November/December to tie in with the period from American Thanksgiving to Christmas. It most certainly will not see a summer release as it is has only just been made "Feature complete" which means they have only just finalised what features will be included, (Pre Alpha stage) they now have to go away and make it "Content Complete" which means all the coding and features are finished, it will then go to Beta testers so it really wont be on the shelves for another 6 months at least.

Want a look at how it really works:

This was filmed by someone at the E3 show who was actrually playing the unfinished game!

EDIT 2* I'm really on a role now Heres a great little write up from the E3 show:
http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/sim/microsoftflightsimulatorx/news.html?sid=6150936&mode=recent

By the way, you may have to cut and paste the above links instead of clicking them.

We're getting close to release date, can't wait! Will EuroHarmony have to re-make aircraft textures for FSX or will they already work?

who knows? I'm thinking a thousand things at once. "Will euroharmonies livery work? Will my expansions work, will my computer work, will we have to re-create the virtual airline"

All i know is that it will turn out for the best. hopefully.

Don't worry, EuroHarmony's not going to self-destruct just because MSFS gets updated ;D;D;D

My guess is that this will be very similar to the period straight after the release of FS9 when the same questions were asked by lots of people. And some of them got the new version and loved it, others couldn't get good performance on their systems and went back to (or just stayed with) FS2002, indeed I'd be surprised if some of our pilots don't still use it. I did myself until Christmas when I upgraded my system...

It'll be interesting to see how MSFS changes in the new version but I'm sure the MT will want to reassure everyone that EHM will continue to support users of FS9 (and FS2002?) whilst taking advantage of the new abilities of FSX for those who have it and can run it ;)

Don't forget, upgrading isn't compulsory !!:P (But i guess that just makes me sound old...;))

I'm not sure if we need to repaint all the a/c for FSX, but it wouldn't surprise me. I'm almost sure that most cases there have to be made new add-ons to the work with FSX. It sound like if you don't have an up to date new pc, then you are not going to be able to run FSX. Don't really think we will need to re-create EuroHarmony. It been around for 5 years, it has change over the years. But I don't think it will need to get re-created. Luckly a VA's are independ of FS version. We may need to change some things. But let cross that bridge then the time is. Let first see the finished version of FSX

My PC is alright. It's actually the latest one. I've got alot of powerful games which take up alot of space like the sims 2 and all it's expansion packs. My FS has quite good framerates, so it's ok in holding what i have now, but I guess I will be un-installing alot of things.

And good. I'm glad the VA will still be strong.
