EHM-0361 Karsten:
Ben, I think you are right, flightsim is perhaps more of a guy thing or perhaps it's because the females are to smart to fly flightsim. I mean if you take a step back and look at it from a person that are not into flightsims  point of view. Then what we spend our time on may seems to be a little stupid. I mean we fly and we fly, and when we switch of the flightsim we are still the same place we where 10 hours ago. Perhaps that onw of the reasons why we don't see that many females here. Another reason may be why control something so small as an aircraft when you can control something bigger, like somebodys life. So I think that many females perfer to play SIMS instead. I'm not saying SIMS is a girl thing, because I enjoy playing SIMS too.

edit: btw. I also think it has something to do with where you are from. I think it more common in USA for females to fly flightsim then in Europe. I know an airline where there are perhaps 15 females, but all from the US of A

EHM-1612 Paolo:
In February I bought a copy of FS9 for my bigger friend and I suggested him to join EHM. He joined us but he has never flown for two main reasons: he doesn't like aviation like all we love it, and because he thinks that this is a non serious thing....he feels like he is constricted to do what the managment wants and he calls me "idiot" for my 17h flights ;D
I think that love and passion for FS and VAs is very difficult to find in everyone...
For the fact that we haven't many females in the roster I think that maybe they have other hobbies like shopping and talking to friends and that is a natural thing.

Its quite strange, last 4 or 5 times i've been on IVAO, I allways hear lady pilots or controllers (either that or guys with high pitched voices, we all went through that stage in life lads ;) But i think moree ladies are getting involved, we did have one lady pilot called Jen if i remember but that one died a death so to speak:]

EHM-E4S:
maybe they don't have women pilots because of the "distraction" and male hosts because of the "distraction"

in ATC, their more bothered in trying to make sure that there isn't six planes on one runway taking off, some just landing.

EHM-1199 Philip:
Basically, most women folk fail to understand this as a hobby. What you have to remember is that all men are somewhere on the autistic spectrum. We all have fixations on something ... be it cars, bikes, planes or even ... heaven help us ... women. Now ... autistic spectrum disorders are almost exclusively a guy thing and flight sim really does start edging us up well into aspergers :)

Most women therefore find it strange and pointless but this is because they are unable to enjoy life on the autistic spectrum. What I say to you Matt is for God's sake hold on to her ... a girlfriend or wife who really 'understands' the hobby is a gift! My wife completely fails to understand the whole 'event' thing and I find myself almost apologetically mumbling the words 'I've got to make a flight tonight' for I know it will be accompanied by a barrage of ridicule. Comments such as ...
"You've got to ... what happens if you don't ... do the passengers sue?"
You see, the whole working towards a metaphorical award that exists only in the ether of cyberspace is again quite an autistic spectrum indicator and one that women just don't get.

On the negative side of course ... if she gets too hooked ... she may end up monopolising your computer and you'll have to get a job as her trolly dolly :)
