EHM-0471 Peter:
Hey Brian. When on final, not just line up way before touch down on the grass, but approach as low as possible, since our birdie sometimes has a problem to come down fast enough due to too high approaching speed. The consequence: you might jump over the half of the runway before you touch down and it's a big question if the brakes will be sufficient to stop this iron monster in time.

EHM-1651 Christian:
Well the engines on the MD-17 are midair reversible so you can start the thrust reversing before touchdown.
Just like to the good old DC-8:>
I tried to land at the first grass strip with full fuel onboard, and made a rather long landing but managed to stop before the "treshhold"
EHM-1671 Ben:
Sounds like the MD17 was a wise choice for these small air strips. Was there any particular reason for choosing it, or was it at random?
EHM-1821 Javier:
and dont come in too low either way for HKLG!!!! :] Mountains on both sides...
and i think the reason for choosing the MD-17 was that its a military aircraft capable of landing on short, unprepared/unpaved airstrips:>
