The decision to include the MD17 in the fleet was simple: it is the correct sized airplane to fit into Class6/EuroCargo.

It was elected for this mission because it can land and takeoff on short airfields, and...because we now have Hercules C130s ;D

Try to calculate your fuel, and take only as much as necessary. The smaller the aircraft weight, the smaller the landing length. ;)

You can always try to approach at 120 kts with full flaps, and also try to rotate at 120kts with half flaps. Then the grass runways will not be so difficult. ;)

Another trick for visual approaches. I discovered if you came in at 120kts, full flaps, at around -400...-500fpm descent rate, the runway must be visible in line with the small compass on the cockpit window. If you see this, you are proabably near the optimal glide slope ;)

Well the MD-17 is capable of landing on a 3000ft field with
160.000pound of payload.

it really sounds like quite an amazing plane - a good choice so for this event with all the short landing strips we'll be using ;D

And on the ground, a fully loaded aircraft, using engine reversers, can back up a two percent slope.

But anyone got the fuel flow figures.
Or can make a smart a little fuel predictor.(or calc)

I use a very simple calculation ;D I usually divide the distance with range and got a basic amount of fuel rate. Of course it depends on the payload, and efficiency factors, like cruise speed  and level, but that is just enough and works most of the times ;)

If you expect to fly the 1st 2 legs without a pitstop, that is around 1400nm together as Bruno said, but almost empty for the 2nd leg, so 45...50% fuel is just enough without refuelling on the grass airfield.

Hi

After testing the Pro Pilot system I decided to join this event and probably get myself a heart attack, but my mail to Bruno bounces back to me.

I just tried to fly the first leg of the Event (as I'm not free tonight) but I get the message 'No flight is locked' even though I've checked and my plane is definitely locked on the website...

Is this because of the fly-in tonight? Unfortunately evenings are normally a bad time for me...

Hi Kevin
Have you updated your Flight Logger, that should do the trick.

HI
The Boeing MD-17 UNHCR is last on the Aircraft available list on Flight Logger.
Try pressing the "Update " button again.
cheers,
Trevor

Hey...

I tried that,...and i get the MD-17, but i cannot lock the flight at the propilot division. but maybe it's true that we cannot lock our plane until the first fly-in...

Ditto ... everybody elses plane appears to be red and therefore locked for a flight. My plane is there in green on the propilot page but I can't actually lock it as there is no flight listed when I click on the Tail-ID ... know I've been away for sometime... have things changed while I was gone? Am I doing something wrong? Basically until I can lock the flight on ProPilot I don't s'pose I can fly it and if I can't fly it then I'm going to have to miss the online wheeze of this evening. Never mind eh? Don't mind flying it offline but would like to be able to lock it if anyone knows how :)

I have the same green and almost everybody else red, but nowhere to fly and thus not able to lock.

exactly the same case. I just clicked the propilot button in Flogger, and it said you must lock a flight first. Then went to my plane, which is also green, and there are no flights available for it, so therefore, I cannot lock it, meaning I cannot fly it.
