I\'m still flying!!
EHM-1001 Robert:
The decision to include the MD17 in the fleet was simple: it is the correct sized airplane to fit into Class6/EuroCargo.
It was elected for this mission because it can land and takeoff on short airfields, and...because we now have Hercules C130s ;D
Try to calculate your fuel, and take only as much as necessary. The smaller the aircraft weight, the smaller the landing length. ;)
EHM-1980 Brian:
i tried flying it last night - it handles like a dream...... i like it a lot and am looking forward to friday even more now! ;D
EHM-1001 Robert:
You can always try to approach at 120 kts with full flaps, and also try to rotate at 120kts with half flaps. Then the grass runways will not be so difficult. ;)
Another trick for visual approaches. I discovered if you came in at 120kts, full flaps, at around -400...-500fpm descent rate, the runway must be visible in line with the small compass on the cockpit window. If you see this, you are proabably near the optimal glide slope ;)
EHM-1980 Brian:
thanks for the tips Robert and may i say the paint job for the MD-17 for this event is fantastic! I only had a quick flight in it last night but it looks real good! well done again....
EHM-1651 Christian:
Well the MD-17 is capable of landing on a 3000ft field with
160.000pound of payload.
