Some upcoming x-plane 10 screens
EHM-1997 Alexander:
I'm going to ease you through it - what you're seeing is culture shock. The two sims are quite different with different strengths. I can't use a MSFS cockpit with jerky guages now ;)

Switch to 'extreme res' on texture resolution. Your graphics card can handle it.

You can grab osm data to improve the placement of roads, hopwever I don't bother, that's all in v10. You will need to up sliders to increase the amount shown if you want to see more of them though.
--- Quote from: EHM-2097 Andrei on September 17, 2010, 08:47:30 am ---I still have some problems with the views, as in VFR flights I used extensively the joystick hat switch to rotate the spot view. More generally, having used MSFS for 7 years, I developed some reflex gestures and it's troubling when these have a completely different result than expected (I let you imagine the worst).

Map your joystick hat left, right, up, down to pan up fast, pan down fast, pan left fast and pan right fast on the advanced button configuration window.
Track IR also works in x-plane.
Additionally, change in rendering options viewpoint to 065 field of view form the default 045.
Remember that although a few of the default planes in xp9 are ok with vc et al, most are not indicative of the quality you can achieve in payware. A lot of stuff sold at the .org is abacus quality or lower (not all a few real gems there like nils stuff.) x-aviation has a much higher bar, I own all but one of the aircraft sold there.
EHM-0654 Murray:
I'm disappointed that you've read the manual at all Andrei. *Real* experts bludgeon through things then look at the manual after... ;D
(I d/led it last night... will read it later, I'm sure).
EHM-0654 Murray:
Word to the wise, if you've got Windows Vista/7, don't install X-Plane into Program Files/Program Files (x86)! Plugins have a hard time writing to that folder per default. Just pop it into a folder off your root (C:\X-Plane or somesuch)...
My thanks to Sandy Barbour (Mr X-Plane SDK) for pointing this one out to me.
EHM-1997 Alexander:
I have mine on a separate drive, but aye - not in the prog files folder.
Got project magenta working with x-plane yet?
EHM-1997 Alexander:
If you haven't seen, there's a news page on laminar's site shouting about x-plane 10, it looks like it may have tuesday updates.
