WILD Division PP Event - progress

EHM-0654 Murray:
I normally manually click the RAMP button anyway, but as you say, E98 isn't spectacular in terms of amenities ;)

That's all set now, and I've turned up my rendering settings a chunk as well, so I may redo some of the previous screenshots under the new circumstances (depending how visible Rio Chama is now...)

EHM-0975 Ragnar:
Well, heres my progress report so far (last weekend I couldn't upload any images)...

Pictures:
1 Climbout from KELP in the early morning hours

2 Quite bland scenery over the first mountain ridge

3 I had a plan laid out, only to say 'what the heck', and follow this great navaid (also known as the I25)

4 I told you no passengers would want to ride with me. I circled and tried to land smoothly for about an hour, this is from one of the attempts when I was starting to get seriously bored. I did several really good AP aided approaches (for being me), but every time i got within a few hundred feet from the ground the plane just went up, up and away... Probably because of me playing with the ActiveSky settings for terrain based draft and max up-/downdraft....

I ended up smacking her onto the runway, with a G-force penalty as result - but on the runway and not a crash, which I was happy with at that point.

5 Looks like I'm not flying leg 2 today...  Wonder if it'll get better when the sun rises.

EHM-1829 Trevor:
Nice write-up and pic’s from Mariano and Ragnar.

I enjoyed the flight last night, and find it a far better experience with other pilots to talk and fly with.
Saying that, I have to apologise to Franz and David for messing up the start time;  :-[ i blame night shift, overenthusiasim and the wife, as she is not here at the moment to defend herself.  ;)

The one and only downside of having pilots to talk to in-flight is the unintentional key-press, while using the text box;  it gets me into all sorts of bother, and with smoke belching out the starboard engine I thought “here we go again” ;D

Regarding Mariano’s statement on flight dynamics, I have to agree, as 50% of my landings using the DHC-6 reminds me of the 1000m hurdles.

Thanks again Murray for sorting my booking.
Cheers
T

EHM-1997 Alexander:
These are from the first leg. I normally run textures on extreeme res, I think I was testing with the converted mega airport heathrow and haven't switched back yet.

Texture res: Very High
Forest density: Tree Hugger
World Distance: high
Number of objects: Mega Tons
number of roads: Totally insane!

Preparation being everything, I tried to match Andrei's visual route for Leg 3 to what I can see in Plan-G, and TBH, I got lost ;). So, with the US state routes showing now I've tweaked my rendering settings I have figured out a VR using roads. Here it is (in words...)

Head West out of Farmington following R-64.
At Shiprock R-64 (East-West) meets R-491 (North-South), head North following R-491.
As you pass KCEZ (Cortez Municipal), continue following R-491 North (ish, it bends a point or two West of North just outside Cortez).
At Monticello R-491 (East-West) meets R-191 (North-South), head North following R-191.
Keep following R-191, it waggles a bit on the way up to Moab, but it passes KCNY where you are heading.

@Alex - thanks for listing your render settings, I'll give them a go and see how it behaves (I have an "older" ATI graphic card...)

@All you FS9/FSX pilots - something you can't see from my at KFMN shot is the pronounced slope to rwy 23 in X-Plane (it looks somewhat like a hill on approach). If you think landing the DHC-6 is tough on a pancake-flat runway, try it on a runway that's coming up to meet you coming down.
