EHM-2387 Eric-Jan:
Mariano and me, that is.
We traveled together this evening. Take off was nice enough weather, Landing was a whole different story. More on that tomorrow, today I only have a take-off shot to share:
DetailsWith Mariano taking off right after me.

As I said: more tomorrow (gotta get me some sleep too, you know ;))
E-J

EHM-2387 Eric-Jan:
So, this is tomorrow ;)

Mariano had an FS crash some 5 nm out from KTHM, so he had to re-fly the leg :(
DetailsLook like he came in just in time, the second attempt ... 23:56 on the last day ;D

Here we are, on the apron, ready for startup.
Details
M. had some FS issues, and I had just loaded my FS-Passengers, so while he restarted his FS, I took a slooowww taxi to rwy 17 (At Provo, the pax did not like that they had to sit on board for 45 mins before taxi)
Details
During my taxi, M. came back online, and started up quickly
Details
Today was all about following rivers
Details
And then it became hazy
Details
Flying in formation is fun! TCAS is going WILD here :)
Details
Some truely nice valley flying!
Details
And then the weather really hit us...
Details
So we climbed to a safer level, and thought up a strategy on how to get down to KTHM. I opted for the GPS in landscape mode, follow the river, and look vertically down until the ground would become visible.
The sensible thing to do would be to return and divert, but this is the last day for this leg, so... on we go!
Details
Then things got a bit too hectic for screenshots ...
Luckily, I had the recorder on:
EHW leg07

Now I've got two days to repair my bird. Wednesday is the final leg for me.
See y'all up there!
Eric-Jan

EHM-0654 Murray:
Ouch! That's why we flair E-J ;)

Thompson Falls even has a decently long runway, you could have let it scrub speed a little longer... Just wait 'til you get to Castlegar

FYI, for METAR you should read MSO/KMSO for KTHM METAR; CYCG has it's own station.

EHM-2387 Eric-Jan:
I know, I know, landing nose gear first is not SOP :D
All those downdrafts ... brrr!!

TBH I was too late with my flare, indeed. Radio altimeter should read between 20 and 30 ft when you keep level, but this time I bounced up before I knew it. Nice that FSPassengers adds the blown tire with sparks, and later sirens to the event, but that was not recorded by FS recorder, so you guys don't get to see that in the movie.

Well, I was glad I even made it to the runway  ;). Playing back the recording with calm and clear weather, my route seems like I'm drunk and most of all: it seems very dangerous  :o. Almost flew into a stone wall three times!

Let's see what the last leg will bring...

EHM-2155 Mariano:
Here are my shots and of the 7th leg flown at first with E-J, till my Fsim crashed, and then on my own a little bit later, as E-J said in the nick of time landing at 23.56!

I hope things go smoother tomorrow for the last leg...

Screenshots and short descriptions:

DetailsE-J takes off, while I hold short. I then did a STOL from this point, but honestly, this thing can climb with 200 feet of runway  :D

DetailsClimbing, turning right to avoid the mountain right in front of the air strip, leaving it behind to head north and to chase E-J.

DetailsClimbed to over 9,000 ft but then decided to drop back down to 6,500 because I couldn't see a thing.

DetailsThe ground scenery, roads and rivers were remarkably accurate on this leg so I could follow the river as well as him in FSX.

DetailsDetailsFinally I realized I had been flying with flaps 10, and then I retracted them so I caught up with E-J for a bit of formation flying and TCAS alarms going off.

On approach, we were following the valleys to reach the airport, but soon enough the visibility became close to nothing at the very same time my GPWS said "twenty five hundred" so I went into panic mode, set the AP to 9,500 climbing at 1,500 fpm with full throttle.
After peeing my pants I wondered how would we land on this. E-J reported having some visibility below 3,500 but I had none at all.
Then my FS crashed and I went to have dinner and relax before I hit everything with a hammer  :P
Flew the leg offline and with the least amount of programs turned on. Fsim and FLogger... my net didn't go down... landed, submitted the PIREP, and then relaxed. Job done

See you all tomorrow, whoever is coming for the last leg online mega fly in event of the century  ;D
