New Tour of New Zealand

(1/2) > >>

EHM-1465 Dominic:

Haere Mai! That means welcome in the Maori language of the original inhabitants of New Zealand, the fantastically diverse and beautiful country southeast of Australia. Some will know it from travels there (I've been twice and love it!), others will have seen it as a backdrop in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Hobbit" and some of you may have no experience of New Zealand at all. Whatever your situation, I invite you all to explore and enjoy this wondrous land in the south pacific by flying our brand new "Tour of New Zealand" :)

From the sandy beaches of the "Bay of Islands" north of Auckland...

to the snowy mountains around Mount Cook...

...the beautiful fiords around Milford Sound...

...and the volcanic crater of Mount Taranaki...

...New Zealand offers you some breathtaking landscapes to enjoy from your cockpit. You can undertake the Tour in any Aeroclub aircraft or alternatively the DC-3 or Twiin Otter. Make sure you download some addon scenery (there is loads of choice in the usual place - FSX and FS2004), fly low and slow to really make the most of the views, and don't just fly point to point but do a bit of exploring!

It's a wonderful country - enjoy ;)

EHM-1465 Dominic:
For those of you who like to spend a bit of time planning your flights before you climb into the cockpit, these detailed maps of New Zealand should come in handy:-

NORTH ISLAND

SOUTH ISLAND

They are a few years old but ideal for general navigation around the islands' main features :)

EHM-2387 Eric-Jan:
Great Tour, Dominic! I already wanted to go SEP Island hopping in some beautiful scenery (like the Pirates of the Caribbean Tour), now I have a new route all prefab :)

There's tons of freeware addon scenery on Avsim, Flightsim.com, and the like, for those that are interested in such. Here's a nice collection of links already:

Happy flying all!!!  ;D

EHM-2758 Peter:
Looks very promissing, Dominic! Thanks. Never did New Zealand! The screenshots show that the tour will be through various types of landscapes, which makes VFR-flying so attrctive. So, I have to prepare my A2ASimulations Cessna172S for this sightseeing tour very quickly. And as usual I plan to report in writing, video and pictures how I'm doing.

Peter

p.s. Next week I will place a Doodle-link on the forum under Flight Reports with dates and times for those who would like to fly this tour together.

Meet you on Mumble!

Peter

EHM-0502 Desmond:
There is also ORBX scenery available for both North and south islands - FSX only though. Really good scenery, worth the purchase price.
