This topic is to discuss anything that comes to mind about the new PP Challeng to ferry a C172 accross the Ocean, westbound  ;D

EHM-2131 Bruce:
Hello E-J, sounds a nice event, how will the fuel   section work, will there be a spacial model that all have to use, or can you use the EHM model or a paid for one ?, the fuel usage could vary with different  downloads, I have a B757 paid for, and the fuel rate is less than the EHM B757,  ie. bought is 9617 LB/HR, EHM  10500 LB/HR  averaged over 10 flight of over 2hr duration, have not flown the EHM C172 for many years so do not have any data, Best Regards Bruce EHM-2131

EHM-2387 Eric-Jan:
Hi Bruce,

the PIREP filed eventually by FL contains more data than you, as regular user, can see. Among others, I can see which aircraft you have actually flown (or if it is a mix of different aircraft types; same type with different reg is seen as one), and of course the amount of fuel burnt. You can use any SEP plane, but I will want to see a C172 for the entire route if you are to be in the running for the "fuel prize".

Yes, there are differences in fuel burn rate between different models, but if I see a major discrepancy between the mileage flown, the time that took, and the fuel burnt, then I will start to doubt whether that result was obtained "legally" (there are of course parameters in FS you can tweak; which would lead to obvious discrepancies). On such a long flight, any deviations of more than, say, 10% immediately make a huge difference.
In other words: it's a personal checking (by me) of each PIREP kind of thing. By no means water tight (and prone to bribery ;) ), but I thought it would be a nice incentive to take the flight planning bit a touch more seriously.

I, for one, will be flying an Aquila A210, as I do in real life. So I will be excluded from the fuel prize.
But if you take a payware C172 (I know A2A Simulations have an awesome one), you might indeed be off more realistically than the standard EHM one. Not sure if that is a positive or a negative thing, as I don't know the actual fuel burn of the A2A one.
I guess we'll find out at the end of it all :)

Hello E-J, thanks for the clarification, looking forward to the planning stage,should be interesting considering the range of a C172, l may be a bit slow this morning but what is a SEP plane?, thanks again Best Regards Bruce EHM-2131

EHM-2387 Eric-Jan:
Sorry, that's my PPL training kicking in  ;)
SEP = Single Engine Piston.

So no turbines, only one piston engine allowed. Which usually means one propeller too.
