Title: Twitter
Post by: EHM-0654 Murray on July 28, 2009, 11:21:17 am
Just gotten into the whole Twitter thing (@PantsMan1970 if you want to find me) and having searched for all the obvious things, I'd like to suggest that as a VA we make ourselves a de facto hash tag standard to work with on Twitter.

#ehm for general stuff, and we can then expand that tag as needed (#ehm-propilot for PP things, #ehm-events for events things, #ehm-tours for tour things...)

I'm also using #ivao for IVAO related things, and should the need arise, I'll use #vatsim for VATSIM related things...

Think of public SMS messaging, and you're close. You send short messages (140 characters max) to Twitter, and anyone else on Twitter can read them (particularly anyone that is following you).

EDIT: Better yet, I'll just quote Wikipedia:

Quote
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications. While the service costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees.

I think I am too old now to understand why this is needed for anyone ! We should meet instead real life and not sending SMS to a chatroom where everybody is eagerly awaiting it in front of a PC  :)

Will twitter last?

"Am now walking down the corridor"

"turning left into the cafeteria"

"Muffin for lunch!!!!!!"

Doesn't take long to realise everyone else leads the same boring lives that you do :P

That said, I also have no intrest in friendlyface.. sorry, facebook / myspace et al.

I have to say I agree with Alexander, if you need to find things with regards Euroharmony or post something then that is what the forum is for.

I do not see why everyone is so intent on publishing everything about their lives to the whole world.

It's great for quickly passing on little nuggets of knowledge... and speed is the key to it, if you want my opinion.

I think it's great if you're in the scene and use it. I'm all for choice at the end of the day.

Email, Bulletin boards and voice comms are my poison, with a little IM thrown in on the side. Any more and I'd be spending more time visiting places to get the info than would be worth it.

Just waiting on direct neural interface now.

Love that line from the IT crowd when they're using "friendface" - "I feel so social" (she says from the lonely couch+laptop)

Okay, its everyone's taste how to waste the technology and enormous resources for so small things.  ;D

What is more important now, if we have this opportunity already, lets see how could we turn it to EuroHarmony's earn ? Murray, could you explain the idea, please ?

Hi,

I like the idea about twitter. It was new for me, too. Thanks to Murray for introducing twitter. I surf twitters and find them interesting. Apart form the forum I think it would work well for instantaneuos comments, events or news... etc. presentation of which would result in a crowded forum. Specially I think it would work as an on record chat room instead of live chat room. (EH live chat room is usually empty, or as far as I see.)

We could have a better communication way. Additionally, understand and know each other better. Attached intantaneus news...

I would like to participate and try twitter;

LET's TRY. Nothing to lose.

I think forum or email is different than this, let's see how it will work.
