After a 16:43 block time starting at Athens, I finally landed the beautiful PSS 777 at Sydney ! ..

What a ride ....

Was the FO at the controls for any amount of time or did you stay awake for the entire flight?

Well I started the flight this midnigh (about 00:30) and landed about 17:00 :) ... So, I got sleeping from 00:00 to 10:30 am ... the rest I was developping on the laptop and the computer at my desk was "flying" :)

What a great flight. It's a different feeling when you are going to land after a 16h flight ... like "Hey, what if something goes wrong now?" :) ..

Post by: EHM-1001 Robert on April 06, 2006, 11:29:35 pm: You need to reduce speed because you will not be able to manouver it at 180kts. Just imagine, that with half pax, and with nearly empty fuel tank, the B747-400 can land at 125kts ;) Now, that is a difference. ;D

When you use an advanced airplane like the PSS 777 it's not recomended that you trying to land at 135 kts without having a reference speed from the FMC.

Basically what you need to do is to check the Init Performance page and see what VREF does the FMC gives you.

You must always follow that value, because that value is calculated based on the gross weight on the land time.

So, it's not a question of "i will try" but of "is it possible".

So, what you should do, in order to have a good fuel planning is to use the fuel loader of the PSS that will give you a correct value of how many fuel should you load to have a decent VREF.

For instance, the fuel planning should be based on conditions like the distance to the alternate airport, the wind direction and speed at cruise speed, etc etc ...

I can have 150kts but, as Conrad said, if I had more fuel at the landing, I would have a higher VREF than that one.

Post by: EHM-1798 Conrad on April 10, 2006, 05:27:11 pm: yup, usually plan my fuel so that when i check the reference in my FMC it usually says something around 135 --> 140, also you neednt be scared of stalling as it will tell you at what speed you will stall.

As long as youve got the correct flaps, you'll be ok, and i think we should update the topic as i hold the new record bruno :P
