Title: Lisbon - Dakar 2007 : Official Discussion thread
Post by: EHM-0948 Bruno on December 22, 2006, 04:59:18 pm
Dear pilots,

The Lisbon Dakar 2007 event has been announced!!!!
This one will be another challenge, but, fortunately easier than the last one :).

Rules to follow:

1. Send an email to bruno@fly-euroharmony.com to reserve your airplane.

2. There will be no spare airplanes, so fly all legs carefully.

3. The flight dates are respecting the real life legs. So, We hope you understand that we need to follow real life dates.

3. We will only load the reserved airplanes.

4. The airplane will be a special Beechcraft 1900D made by our "Fleet Guru", Robert.

Use this thread to post your comments, suggestions and questions. We will answer them all.

Pilots that I already got an email:

- Steven Mitchell
- Javier Goh
- Luis Nunes
- Ben Contreras
- Jay Kae

The "usual" pilots are reserved ! ;D ... Welcome to the party boys ;)

I also would like you to comprehend the strict flight date interval. We want to stick this to reality as close as we can. But, we will listen to you if someone has a very strong motive for not flying the event due to certain dates.

Regards,

The aircraft repaint will be done after Xmas. As the Freeware Beech texture is almost identical in size with the PMDG one, it is possible to do it for both ;)

Hello guys...

Last year i made the Dakar on my private aircraft, but this time i would like to do the rally with Euroharmony colours. However  i have a problem... I will see the Portuguese part of Dakar on that days...

It's Possible to arrange a Delay schedule to me, in order to only follow the rally on the specific dates after Portimão?;D

If not, i understand!

Hi Hélio,

We are opened to ideas, so what we will do this time, and due to the strict deadlines for the legs, we will listen to all the delay questions from our pilots and take the necessary measures to try to solve everyone's problems.

We are thinking about delaying the first 3 legs of the event, to match the last date from the third leg. In this case, the first three legs will end about 7th or 8th January ... But we will continue listening to your problems and take a decision on the next week.

Uhoh problems guys ....

http://www.dakar.com/2007/DAK/presentation/us/r3_1-news.html#art16825

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against the organisation of the 10th and 11th stages of the 29th edition of the Dakar. The rally organisers, who resolved to follow the recommendations of the Ministry, have thus decided to cancel the two Nema-Timbuktu and Timbuktu-Nema stages, programmed for the 16th and 17th of January 2007. In spite of the extensive surveillance and the guarantees provided by the Mali authorities, this precautionary measure is vital in safeguarding the security of the competitors.

Initially planed in Timbuktu, the appointment with Mali where the welcome of the spectators confirms the interest of the nation’s leaders for the Dakar, will be pushed two days later.

The sporting teams of the rally having considered an alternative solution, a loop stage Nema-Nema, including a timed sector of 376 kilometres, will be organised on the 16th of January. The following day, the competitors will enjoy half a rest day, and will then take to the road for a liaison stage of approximately 280 km towards Ayoun-el-Atrous (Mauritania), where the start of the stage will be given on the 18th January, towards Kayes (Mali).

Hi,

Thank you Tamas!

I corrected the legs due to the latest organization changes. We also have one more tolerance day on the beginning of the first three legs to help some pilots to catch up.

The HTML page has beed updated.

Also, tomorrow I will receive the tail id's from Robert, and will send all the emails to all the signed up pilots ;)
We are also testing the new Lisbon-Dakar Beech. I can tell you it's going to have a spectacular texture! And there will be a special PMDG version too ;)

Ok more news...

1. I have given all the tail ids. Some of you received an email from me asking for the pilot id. Others I sent a U2U message because the email got bounced back.

So, please check that you have your airplane tail id. If not, please send me an email again.

2. We had a mistake on the leg list, so we deleted the leg E013 and adjusted the numbers accordingly to that.

The Dakar 2007 is the most challenging event in the world.  This year, the organizers describe “Different stages every day, a fast-changing pace, high-speed stretches alternating with technical legs, intense navigation. . .

Pilots have to be skilled, on the lookout for the slightest traps, and shrewd navigators, or else they will loose a great deal of time and energy. . . the Dakar will be an extreme challenge again this year.”

from the site:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/2007-dakar-rally/

Does it fit to us, as well? :))

Safe flights to everybody,
Luciano

I will update this on the event page tomorrow.

Also, on friday night we will deploy the PMDG one.

Bruno, you sent me two mails yesterday. One of them indicated the plane CS-DKN, the other one the plane CS-DKS.  In the lock flight section I found the two flights under my name, colored in green, which one should I fly?

By the way I was preparing my legs and noticed that in the event section the airport Kayes Dag Dag was indicated with the ICAO GAKY instead of GAKD. Just mis-typed?

Best regards,

Hi Luciano,

Sorry it was a mistake. Forget the CS-DKS. You'll use the CS-DKN.

The aerodrome ICAO is corrected. Thank you.

We also have inserted the airplane link on the Events page.

By the way, I just tried to update my FLogger in order to have the 2007 Dakar flights show up.

I couldn't because got this msg from the program:

Translation from Italian:'Impossible to set on Null a column which cant be canceled'

Any idea why? Anybody else gets this?

(I am PP-newbie - I suppose after you locked a plane for me I will find it in the PP-Section as locked for me?)

Thanks

Hi Miko,

I didn't received any email from you. But, I reserved an airplane for you and the tail id is CS-DKU.

Regarding the reservation there is a difference:

Reservation: The airplane is reserved but not locked. Basically it means that no one else, besides the pilot's airplane owner can lock the airplane.
It permits that when a pilot finishes a flight, and the airplane is unlocked, it still will be reserved to the same pilot.

Lock: The airplane is locked (consequentaly it will not appear for the others to be locked) and can only be flown by the respective pilot.

Hope it helps.

I was flying the GMFK-GMMZ flight, but when I tried to submit the pirep, it said the website had exceeded it's 20% blah, you know what I mean, but I tried later, it accepted my flight, but due to the website system, it said it can't accept it as a Propilot flight. If you look at my flight page, the flight is there, but it was only counted as a normal flight. Do I need to re-fly the flight?

Even Navigraph hasn't got one.

No ILS, no chart - only St. Exupery would cope ;D

Am I travelling in a different world to everybody else? I'm lookinf at everybody else's screenshots and just not recognising these places.
My world seems to have airport runways stuck at the top of a 4000foot cliff and in the case of the last two locations with a similarly high lake next door and the rest of the land flat!! Something very weird going on here!!

In fact, having looked again ... I seem to be flying over a permanent sea level plateau with mountains in the distance faced off by impossible cliffs and then as I get closer, the mountains/cliffs retreat further away, only correcting when I get to an airport which is then sat on some impossible ledge like something out of a fantasy movie!! Something definitely wrong here. HELP!!

Hello people!

I don't really like taking screenshots but since I'm really enjoying this flights I tough I could share with you how I've been flying. This is the

GMMZ - GMAT

Estimated departure time: 2130Z (before t/o)
Actual departure time: 2135Z
Estimated arrival time: 2300Z (before t/o)
Actual arrival time: 2303Z

Well, the routing was very simple. Flying on the 242 outbound radial from OZT VOR/DME and then, when within range, fly the R-242 inbound TAN VOR.
A few minutes after having reached my final flight level of F180 and cruising at a speed of 180Kias, the cockpit instruments were reading a ground speed of +/- 200kts from OZT. After doing the math I had an estimated time for TAN VOR of 2300Z.
The entire cruise was normal. After I start receiving the VOR signal of TAN I changed the NAV1 to the TAN frequency and continued on the 242 radial.
Since TAN is only VOR (no distance) I had to plan my descent based on the time.
Estimating that my ground speed was about the same (I was already out of range from the VOR/DME OZT), I calculated the BOD (beginning of descent) at 2248Z with a vertical speed of 1500ft.
So, at that time I started to descent and checked that I was receiving the signal from Tan's NDB. Knowing it is at 38 DME I verified the current time and checked that the estimated time for the airfield was the same (2300Z).
I had visual conditions with the airport 4 minutes before flying over it.
I approached the field and flew over it to check the winds, then, joined the left downwind for runway 21 having landed at 2303Z and reaching the stand at 2305Z.

Well, that's it! Great event! Thanks euroharmony!:>

Wonderful FPS Luis!
I tried the same situation on FSX with a LRJ45 and got a FPS of 7-8. Awful!

Which PC config have you?

I have just a PIV 3GB 1GRAM GF6600GT and, boys, I realise I must renew it!

I can't use FSX, it is too slow!

@ Luciano ( If you remeber, on the 2006 Dakar was the guy who help you with the MTL.....eheheheh)

My hardware config is :

Motherboard - Asus P5B
CPU - Intel dual core (2) E6400
RAM - 2GB
VideoCard - Nvidea 6600GT (the same as you)
HD - Maxtor Sata II - 250GB

When vista and the news videocards dx10 come out, i'll be a buyer.....

My first impression on FSX was a total frustation, but after some days of try and error....i get success running it.

Hi Philip,

Unfortunately your airplane's black box doesn't show us the same thing.
As you can see on the following image, your altitude was bellow that one, your gear was not down and you also stalled.

I would also advise you to refrain your emotions a bit because we are always here to help, but on this situation we cannot do anything. Better luck for the next event.

:) Hi Bruno... congratulations by the way - some stuff matter more than flight sim :)
Whatever you have as my airplane's black box ain't right...I was sat infront of the screen when the situation reset. There was no stall. the airplane was descending from 5000' and hadn't even reached 2500'. Somewhere along the line something is wrong. I just know I've all but lost faith in events and pro-pilot. If it's only me reporting bugs then guess it's my setup. Sorry if emotions were raw but was and still am ticked off at what seems like a waste of time. will return to flying non pp stuff until after I've found time to do a resintallation of fs and see if that helps. I also had weird scenery issues in north africa that seemed to suggest all was not right on my system.

Hi Philip,

As I said we can't :$ ... The ACARS shows a clean crash there and as you know if it weren't (like it happened on a pilot from the Dakar event) I would gladly give you a spare airplane.

We still didn't considered this a problem because it's very rare to have situations where we had to "swallow our words" because the Flight Logger uses the FSUIPC software to analyse your flight, and imagine if that software was incorrect at that point ;D ...

So, I would strongly suggest a FS2004 + Addons re-installation in order to try to solve this unfortunately problem.

Hi!

I've had Flight Simulator become inaccessible for a few minutes while the plane kept flying (meaning that if I was using some ACARS program the flight parameters would continue to be registered), until FS crashed. Maybe this is what happened to our college.
Just my opinion, but he should be given second change after flying all those legs. We're all here just for fun, right!?

Joao,
Thanks for this. I really don't know what happened here. I do know that I've never tried to buck the system here and part of what riled me last night was the feel that folks felt their data was infallible and I knew differently. It is, as others have said, only a game :)

As it happens, I was wrestling to fly these legs and despite having an opportunity for a long weekend away was actually going to stay home til tomorrow morning to fly that extra leg. Daft really. Will now have a longer weekend away by leaving earlier tomorrow or maybe this eve :) All good in the end. Will definitely re-install FS when I return and before I fly any more PP flights.

Was very disappointing to have spent time only to drop out but really not the end of the world.

Well, it happened to me many times that Logger lost connection with ...something... It became white, but ran at the background, and came back after about 2 minutes, and continued recording the ACARS. There was not any problem on the return phase. It did not make any penalties upon that, so I think it works in the background but unable to report to the server...maybe a "CPU Quota Exceeded Error" is happening at the site.

The main thing it is a bit annoying but cannot cause you unwanted penalties. And if you check that ACARS on that picture, Logger was alive with half minute recordings. ;)

What a great event Paris-Dakar on Pro-Pilot.
This was my first ProPilot event and now i can't wait for the next. It's good to see air fields that i would not normally fly to or even countries that i would not fly to.

Well done to the MT for setting up the event  ;)

Could i perhaps suggest that the next Pro-Pilot outing could visit Russia or China ?

Congrats to all other Paris - Dakar pilots hope we did'nt damage or lose too many aircraft :$
