Title: Far East and Quite Long [2007-02-24 VATSIM]
Post by: EHM-0654 Murray on February 10, 2007, 02:29:54 pm
Note: Exact details for this flight are in discussion with SINVACC, so expect things to change.

Our second online event of 2007 sees us in the Far East and on VATSIM.

To honour a promise that the online department made a long time ago, we'll be taking the 3hr flight from Hong Kong Intl (VHHH) to Singapore-Changi (WSSS).

We are assured of ATC in Singapore (perhaps even CTR, but definitely aerodrome) and knowing VATSIM and the Far East, chances are good for Hong Kong.

The flight will take place in the morning on the 24th February, but exact timing is still "up in the air".

The route will be:

VHHH SID SANDI V6 EPDOS L642 VEPLI PASPU STAR WSSS

and that's with the SANDI SID (V6 transition) and PAPSU STAR in use. More news, downloads, charts, etc as we get it/them. (Further note: while setting this all up for the test flight I'm doing now, FSNav didn't have the SID for HK...)

Sorry Murray, I was BH1991. The plane you parked next to. Sorry I couldn't make the EuroHarmony flight. Too long!

Nay probs Matt, it was nothing EHM official (the one on the 24th will be though).

What follows is personal opinion only of the VATSIM pilot client software

OK, having now done a flight on VATSIM...

Both of the VATSIM pilot clients are very complex compared to IVAP (the IVAO pilot client software), BUT...

FSInn has a very similar "feel" to IVAP (even though it does *way* more). Squawkbox 3 looks and feels "old fashioned" compared to both FSInn and IVAP.

What we need is, a network with IVAO's Software, and Vatsim's traffic

Hmm... I find I like the simplicity of squawkbox.... ivap seems to contain plenty of garbage that although technically sound doesnt make  hill of beans difference in Flight Simulator. I find myself loaded and flightplan filed much faster with VATSIM/SB rather than IVAO/Ivap. Of course I've been a SB user since the SATCO days. Aside from the political turmoil that scarred VATSIM years ago, I've had more enjoyment with that organization as opposed to IVAO.

So much for a quick reply.... riddled with opinions I suppose I'm still on the fence. I like both networks and I dislike both networks ;D

Just to make things totally clear, I really like FSCoPilot/FSInn (there are a few things in it that I'd love to see in IVAP - integrated voice for a start, but the quality of VVL is mediocre at best), but I don't like the general atmosphere on VATSIM (particularly in the UK...)

Having said that, my flight to Singapore yesterday felt like an IVAO flight, so maybe I'm "tarring the network with a single VACC brush"...

I just hate the Models in Vatsim. all this VIP if you don't have the plane. MTL is much better.

Hi all,

We are testing a new online flying page at the EuroHarmony website. Please visit it via the 'Online Flying' link which can be found under the 'Pilots' menu.

If you think you're going to join this event then feel free to register. More information about the benefits of registering can be found at this new page too.

If anyone participated in the Schiphol Special Event, November Event or Heathrow Birthday Event then feel free to send in your screenshots via this new page, so things fill up a bit :).

Thanks!

I think we'll stick with Saturday for the fly-in (as I and the SO do our weekly shop on Sunday morning ;)), and I'm inclined to aim for 1000Z for the final departures, that way we'll all have arrived by 1300Z (early evening in Singapore???)

Does anyone that is thinking of participating have any objections? There had only been one reservation (other than me, and basically I was testing the reservation system) last time I checked, but I'm sure there's more of you thinking about taking part. I'll update the event page tomorrow evening if not and set these times in stone.

I am gonna be there. Is there perhaps anyone who could tell me whether the PMDG SIDS and STARS for these airports that are present on www.navdata.at are up to date? Guess I am gonna fly it with a B738.

I can't tell you for sure, but the 0701 update from Navigraph for Project Magenta was correct (and they all use the same source data).

Having said that though, FSNav didn't see the correct procedures, so...

FURTHER EDIT: I can affirm that PMDG 0702 (and likely 0701) has all the procedures for VHHH and WSSS. FSNav 0702 does not.

To quote the recent "Visit Australia" advert from the UK -

Where the bloody hell are ya?

All on my lonesome for an online fly-in - 'tis the VATSIM curse I tells 'ee!

;D

If anyone wants to join enroute (naughty, but there's no ATC about...) I'm currently 40nm inbound EXOTO isec at FL380 M0.79.

NP Phil - you can watch on ServInfo ;)

Peter H has arrived at VHHH, I'm slowing, he's going to compress... we should arrive fairly close together (except I'm cruising way above him...)

Yays all round;

Both Peter and I landed without incident, and Javier passed his "checkride".

I'll get some food eaten then post some more of the pictures to the fly-in page (Maarten, I *love* the fly-in manager...).

I saw tonight that there were only 5 pilots, but like surely look like 10 because of your effort :)

I congratulate you for this event! I'm sure that this year we will get more pilots to fly also on VATSIM. It's a spectacular online network just like IVAO is too.

I think that we should be wise enough to see both networks not on a competition way, but more like on a cooperative way. Surely they both try to offer us the best that they have.

Regards,
