Title: Is FSPassengers not compatible with FLogger?
Post by: EHM-1749 Hector on August 05, 2007, 04:15:52 pm
The first time I used FSP with FLogger I had a "Engine started without the beacon on" penalty when I was at cruise level and without even touching the panel.
The second time was last Friday night attempting to fly EHM5205 from Madrid to Amsterdam.
While getting prep to pushback I clicked the hatswitch for left side view and the FS froze. Since I cannot see any relationship between FSP and FLL I am certain that this is a recurrent problem with my 3-year old laptop.
Restarted everything and while just getting at cruise level, I minimized FS to load Navigraph. Then the screen went black and the mouse icon started to titillate (I don't know if this is ancient English) and after a couple of minutes I just re-booted and started all over again.
This time I loaded everything (Navigraph, Servinfo, Real Time) BEFORE even the FS. Tookoff, cruised and started to descend at about 110NM to Schipol. This time I clicked on the Servinfo icon and the same thing happened: black screen and mouse icon titillating. This time (about 2 a.m my time) I counted until 200, went to the kitchen for a glass of water and then turned the laptop off, fighting against my impulse to smash it down and went to bed in a very, very cold (minus 3 celsius) night.
Last night I did everything the same except loading FSP. It was perfect.
The only times I have had this problem is when flying the LDS B763. I like to use FSP with it because after loading it I have a good %CG which once loaded into the FMC gives you a very reliable elevator trim setting.
What I did last night was to load the FSP, get the %CG and then abort the FSP flight. This way the loading scheme remains so the settings.
Before writing this, I went to the FLogger forum section looking for something like that but I could not find it.
This is why I think that I maybe the only one with this problem.
Will appreciate your comments on that.
Next time I will use FSP with a plane other than the B763 to see what happens.
Cheers,
Hector

Hi Hector.. recognize your problem at some parts (the screen turns black etc.) but for me i've done alot of flights with both Flogger and FSP... sometimes it works, some times it dosent.. but i haven't seen any connection between usning FSP and Flogger togheter and FS crashing for my computer... but to be honest i never have a clue about what's going on with my computer and FS.. it just do as it like :s ;) maybe some other can shed some light on this FLogger and FSP problem.. it works for me! (most of the time :% )

Hector,

I'm afraid I can't claim to know the answer to your problem but I would certainly agree with Daniel that PC crashes with FS can be extremely unpredictable. The sim eats lots of computer resources and when you add on extra demands from complex aircraft and addon programs it can overload some computers especially if they aren't top spec gaming machines...

In addition many FS addon programs interact with the PC and FS in different ways, some of which may not be entirely compatible with each other. So while some pilots may have a whole host of extras running while flying I think you might want to avoid using FSP if that's the common factor in your crashed flights...

Sorry I can't be more definite but hopefully one of the Development Team (who know the Flogger inside out!) might have a more precise answer for you...

Daniel, Dom
thanks for your responses. I agree with your comments and really think that it is time for me to go and get a more powerful machine. My inmediate problem is that I am forced to get a laptop since I am away from home 7 weeks each two months.
My present laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A45-S250 purchased in USA in April 2004 while working there. It has an Intel Pentium 4 processor with 2.8 GHz and 512 MB DDR SDRAM with a 32MB video memory and Intel Extreme Graphics 3 for Mobile (I am reading this from the sticker in the front).
I am almost decided know to get another Toshiba with 2MB DDR SDRAM and a NVidia GForce 7900 machine. My problem is that this machine is loaded with Vista in the plant and I don't want that but XP so I have to order it directly from the factory and will take about 2 months.
At this time I would like to have your help (and from others too) so I can have a machine where I can run FSX (I was one of the first in pre-ordering it last November) because I have it but cannot run it.
Again, thanks a lot for your time to answer my post. Very much appreciate it.
As of today I am starting a two week mini-vacation between Buenos Aires and Venezuela. A week from today I will be at a beautiful, coraline beach in the Caribbean coast of my country at the sandy shoreline with an almost-frozen beer in my hand and two lovely girls: my wife and my daughter:). Nothing is perfect!
Cheers,
Hector

Hector,

Sounds like a great vacation - enjoy yourself!!

If we can help more once you've got your new PC let us know and we'll certainly do our best to figure out how to get it all running smoothly ;)
