FIA Meljet Model - STALL Penalty @ 270 TAS
« on: March 11, 2007, 12:00:31 pm »
Hi All;

I just finished the 3rd FIA Event Leg (WMKK to YMML), and for an unknown reason, I got a STALL and with the Meljet Model, while I was descending to FL100, and while my speed went down lower than 270 knots. Seems to be weird. I was running FsPassenger as well.

Does anybody experienced the same issue with this model ?

Hi Kristoff,

I am sad to hear that. Did you got the penalty only, or maybe FS also showed the STALL text ? That sounds weird anyway.

Hello Robert,

FS shown STALL and FlightLogger does record it. So I guess the problem is linked to the plane; but I suspect that FsPassenger has something to do with it. i will do some trial and let you know.

In fact, I've noticed that it happens when descending and using the spoilers to slow down the bird. I've tried an other time, at FL130 down to FL100, I've slowed down from 290 to 180, I've extended the flaps full, and around 200, I used the spoilers to slow down quicker to 180; and at that point, it stalled :o

I'll try an other time, without FsPassenger to check if there is a link

Hi Cristophe, I think that 180IAS is a very low speed for FL100...I usually go to 230IAS and then slow down as I am approaching the airport...I am not sure about the cause of your problem...:%

It all depends on your load, a very heavy bird with excessive fuel as well as cargo weight will stall easier than a light bird.

The 747-400F tech specs for a clean config require an optimum cruise speed of M.84.

The stall speeds vary from 152 KIAS for an empty weight to 214 KIAS for a loaded bird in clean configuration. A plane with a gross weight of 300,000 KG will need to maintain 184KIAS in clean config to prevent it from stalling.

I realized many times at Meljet model, that when you decrease your speed and extend Flaps 10 at 200 kts, a warning sounds came, and stays until 170 kts. But I never had a stall with it at 180 kts with full flaps. I land the bird with full flaps, at 140 kts on the last 2 miles, and it never got stalled :s Maybe the answer is at Phil.

As for the noise that Robert mentions, it stops as soon as you extend you landing wheels. (at least that's what happened to me so far).
