I think that the Search & Rescue teams have found a debris field now so total loss seems confirmed. Tragic.

Yes, very sad. And very strange. There were 32 nationalities on the plane, 4 Hungarians.

The media somehow found a relative of the family and they quickly presented the whole family's photos in the evening news. They gathered those from the net with a quick search on a Hungarian friend-collector site: IWIW. The family have last logged-in to have a chat with friends on Sunday...

I am very interested what have really happened there. I hope they will find the recorder and can analize it in time.

Its very strange indeed... the A330s dont fail just like that, they have a good reliability record, and Air France is not known for letting their aircraft fly with low maintenance...

Well, if anything, AirFrance has itself a very peculiar title.
They're the first airline to have a total loss on the A320 (1998, Mulhouse), the A330 (now) and A340 (Toronto).

Does anyone know if they have received their A380's yet??

No, that it is still under construction. Airbus recently having problems with building quickly and effectively the interior of the A380. And combined it with recession they highly decreased the production rate, which affects also the releasing of the first Air France copy... But I am sure it will be very reliable and it will get the most support of any airlines in the World.

Just heared from the news that the debris found off the coast of somewhere weren't from the plane...
Other than saying that it's a pity... it begs the question, what are them from then?

Yes, it is a pity. 230 tons of structure cannot sink into the ocean without signs: papers, wood, plastics, baggages, clothes... many of these should have been found ! This is not the shooting of another LOST episode. I think they simply have NO CLUE where could be the plane. But after a week, those many debrises will be already at Dakar or Miami, or at Antarctica... I think they will not find the recorders not because of the depth, but because of the bad location. If they want to really find it at all :s

It's still early days yet for an investigation of this type and the conditions are difficult out in open ocean - once more resources get out there, like a French nuclear sub that is setting off, they should have a better chance of narrowing down the search area and locating the signal from the locator beacons on the two flight recorders... Give it another week and there ought to be much more precise information, I hope.
