Charts!
EHM-1036 Ian:
--- Quote --- Now if only I could find a document describing holds and holding pattern procedures from the ATC point of view
--- End quote ---
Not the easiest of things to desribe as you have proceedural and non proceedural aircraft (vectored). It all comes with practice and interpeting the charts the same as the pilots.
Aircraft following star charts will clearly have the hold entries and exits listed for them. Vectored aircraft (or aircraft with no charts) will require the ATC to give them either 'direct', 'teardrop', or 'parallel' entries based on the aircraft heading, with infomation on turn times (e.g. 1minute legs) and headings. (turn rates are based on a rate 1 turn). Its not the easiest thing to describe to a pilot. :)
