February online fly-in
« on: February 17, 2006, 05:24:26 pm »
Wanted to allay any fears (Bruno ;)) about the lack of "noise" on the subject of this months fly-in, I'll be posting all the details this weekend, just have a little more planning to do...

JayKae, sorry again but this month will also be on IVAO (I for one don't have time to set up for VATSIM). Next month, I promise...

Good news, thanks Murray.

With regards VATSIM, I find the network rules and software setup they use a little compicated and certainly not as user friendly as IVAO. (especially the use of Servinfo & Wazzup, nowhere near as good as IVaE ;) ) I think maybe it might be an idea to have a setup and training day before attempting a real fly in, just a thought.

OK, announcement time (and this can become the discussion thread...)

Thanks to Bruno for providing the info, this month's fly-in will visit two of our least visited "European" countries - Bulgaria and Macedonia. Not only will this help boost both countries flights ratings, it'll get me my Silver European pilot award ;)

In what we're calling The Eastern Europe Fly-in, you are asked to fly from Sofia [LBSF] in Bulgaria to Skopje [LWSK] in Macedonia. This route is actually EHM-4488 for those that want to PP it (not me, but I won't stop others) and should take us about an hour. Given the success of the last fly-in, we'll hold this on a Sunday also; one week from today (26th February), with departures starting at 1700Z - if this clashes with other things for too many pilots, we can always adjust +/-, just remember to let us know ASAP!

RouteFinder spat out the following:

LBSF SID MOREK DCT KRATO STAR LWSK

NOTE: Anyone wanting a longer flight, treat this as an "any departure you want fly-in" and aim to arrive at 1800Z. EHM-5190 EHAM-LWSK will guarantee you IVAO ATC and should take 2hrs 30mns.

Ooh, now here's an idea... GCD is under 100nm, so why don't we make this a VFR event? Opinions anyone?

Im up for a VFR flight, would be great fun, we could make an enourmous EHM formation.

Maybe Gergely could try and get an EHM BE58 into the MTL, and we could use it...
VFR gets my vote, but it would be OK IFR for me too!;)

Sounds great. Although the distance is quite short, it is sill great. And because of the distance is short, it would be better in VFR mode ;)

Khmm...if it was VFR, could it be a little earlier, so we should not expect night landing ? It is still probable the weather will be bad.

Officially, I'm pretty sure it'll be dark by the time we land if we go real-time, but we could all time-shift by a few hours to avoid that. Weather, well, that's part of the fun...

Nothing like a challange, and if the condidtions get too bad for VFR, we can allwys use IFR navigation, and the arrival airport has ILS i think...;D

well if we have ATC and they are good they might not let us fly in the dark (have to admit I'm not completely up to speed on vfr rules).

What happened to as much realism as possible btw:D

VFR is easy enough, no entering class A airspace at all, entry to controlled airspace only if the controller allows you, 1000ft clearance above or below any cloud, arrival prior to sunset-30mins and minima for visibility (which I always forget).

Just flown the DCT route in the BE58 and it took 40mins block to block offline. Weather was lovely (no wind, very little cloud and it was all way above me...) and I'm pretty sure that the FS default scenery has a road that runs pretty much direct between the two fields.

And realism? That's what all the lovely FS addons are for. If the weather proves too poor for VFR then I'll just file IFR and fly using radio NAV (instrument rated pilots have the option of doing that too, you know ;))

Hey Murray, If things get bad and you fly IFR, I'll just follow 100 ft behind you and remain VFR!

Hi,

I will be there with my triple 7 just to make you jealous ;D ..

Ok, kidding, I don't know if I can be there yet, because I am going to be out of home all the weekend and still don't know at what time will I come home. It's more probably that I can't be there. If the fly-in was more later, like 20 or 21 GMT, then surely I could be there.

But also I don't want for us to change the schedule just because of one person, so let's stay as it is.

I will try to come as soon as possible and grab a VFA Baron 58 for the fly-in.

Regards,

Wee. Very quick (Hour block, 35mins flight) but great fun nonetheless.

My thanks to (in no particular order) 1651 Christian, 1612 Paulo, 1703 Phil, 780 Leo, 1500 Jim, 1001 Robert, 001 Gergely, 1343 Jonathan, and most especially 617 Iain - you may have been "late" (your words, not mine) but it wouldn't have been anywhere near as good without you on APP.

Screenshots, flight report, etc. to murray@fly-euroharmony.com ASAP please (Bruno, will need the new backend access details as well please.)

Murray

I would just like to say many thanks for another great fly in. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I even got enough video to make a short clip for the VFA. (although my flying skills are not a great advert :) )

To all that participated, many thanks. Maybe cos Murray doesn't have enough to do, we could make this a bi weekly thing :P

Well I would but surely it would help if this position was filled by someone that could fly! :o (wait till you see the video footage, you will shoot me!)

Seriously though, I am willing to help in any way possible, not by being in the MT, just as a grunt though! :P
