747 flights Cargo/Passenger
« on: January 11, 2007, 01:23:07 pm »
Hello All
I was wondering if in the real world all 747 flights are monster ones? I ask is because it would be nice to use  the 747 but having just looked through the flights all of them are very long distance and would take a very long time to complete and as i don't like to speed up flights means i never get to try out the 747.I am sure in one VA i used to belong to there was a cargo flt using the 747 from EGLL to EHAM which i believe would be flown in the real aviation world.
Cheers Andy

Hi andy,

I know that some flights Japan are very popular. They use Boeing 747SP's. So, shorter flights with 747 do happen.

In Japan they also use the Boeing 747-400D which is basically a 747-400 without the winglets...
Used on domestic flights...

I think, that you've mean 747SR (Short Range). Japan airlines use them on short, but high density routes. Sadly, one of them was famous JAL flight 123 crash (12.08.1985, 520 fatalities) :[

Lukasz, you are right but so is Harman.

The original version of the Small 747 was known as the 747 SP. This was a shortened 747-100, it carried only 230 PAX in a 3 class config and although it offered better performance figures (in both speed and range) that its larger brother it was more costly to run on a per pax basis but offered a better option than running a full size 747-100 at half capacity. This was originally used on short routes until the SR variant apeared later.

For this reason Boeing developed the 747-100 SR mainly for the Japanese market. This version retained the size of the 747-100 and carried up to 563 PAX in the Stretched upper deck or SUD version and offered better performance on short range routes.

After this a 747-300SR was also developed, again at the request of Japanese airlines... There you go a short history of the most well known commercial airliner in the world! :)

There is now the 747-400D or Domestic, which is the same as the normal 747-400 except it have less fuel tanks, so it can carry more weight on shoerter distances.

EuroHarmony does not take part in the Domestic business, therefore we use Class 7 flights on longhaul flights only. If you want to fly the 747 on short routes, then I advice you to fly her on the Capitals of Europe Tour...just take care at small airfields in the Eastern-Europe ;)
