ERJ-170 Gear sensitive?
« on: January 29, 2007, 06:10:55 am »
Why is it when I land the 767 (info from FSPassengers) at 300 fpm everything is fine.... yet the last two flights in the ERJ-170 have been touchdowns at under 150 fpm and I'm receivng G-force penalties? I suspect there is a glitch in the gear damping settings in the contact points section of the Embraer's Aircraft.cfg ..

If that is not the case, PP has some inconsistencies in determining soft landings from hard landings. Lately, I've been struggling to grease the landing in the 67 but the Embraer flies beautifully. Too bad about the 400 point penalty for the smooth landings. :s

Hi Scott,

just asking, if you are sure it is a problem with the bird ? Once I had similar strange penalties with the free 747, and I think that caused probably some scenery "gaps" I may run through, because the landing was smooth as you mentioned. Also it was only one occasion and not a static problem.

I have found that the high G force penalty on landing is quite often given if you allow the nose gear to touchdown too quickly, also check the landing speed is not too fast. The FPM can be quite low when you flare but try to hold the nose up for a little longer when you shut the throttles, the nose will drop slowly as you loose speed,  this should keep you clear of the penalties. This issue is more likely to happen on the smaller aircraft.

Bruce,

Okay I've continued my tests. I flew the Fokker F-100 and on landing, the lift dumpers deploy (ie wing folding key) and no matter how hard I pull back, the nose slams onto the runway. Here is the best part - no G force penalty, nor does the gear buckle and cause a crash.... Try it. I've touched down at less than 100 fpm on landing with 7 degree of pitch and the nose gear hammers the runway..... smooth landing according to both FSPassengers and Flightlogger/Propilot.
