This weekend sees the "Geneva Classics" historic transportation event coming to town :P

From 4th to 7th October at Geneva Palexpo Exhibition Centre, there will be a huge display of classic cars, motorcycles, boats and... you guessed it, planes ;)

According to the official website here this will include some examples of early passenger aircraft so it should be a treat for all us aviation fans...

If anyone is planning on visiting the show in the RW, it would be wonderful to see some pictures here... ;)

Or alternatively, feel free to recreate the event in the sim with an EHM DC-3 or JU-52 around Daniel Gauthier's fantastic addon scenery for LSGG (the airport's right next to the Palexpo centre) which you can get here if you haven't already got it...

You could even join in the car display using this old Jaguar if you'd like ;D

EDIT:-

A quick shot for you all showing just how close the Palexpo Centre is to the airport !!

Maybe you can get more dramatic pics of the old planes showing off..? ;) Feel free to post your own pictures...

Zurich Airport's latest (RW) newsletter is out :8

It includes items on the 6.7% increase in passengers using our airport since this time last year, improvements to the VIP lounge our EuroBusiness clients enjoy so much and a number of awards the airport has recently received including the title of 'Europe's Best Airport' for the fourth year running...

Get the full newsletter here :P

And if you're looking for ideas for flights, why not check out the forthcoming Davidoff Swiss Indoor Tennis Championship which runs from 20th to 28th of this month? World Number 1 Roger Federer is bound to be there, who knows he may even arrive aboard a EuroBusiness Pilatus PC-12 from Zurich, flight B235... :8

If tennis isn't your thing, there's also the International Valais Rally taking place from 25th to 27th... This year it's part of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and is bound to gain plenty of media attention with famous drivers arriving from all round the globe... So there will be plenty of demand for flights into both Zurich and Geneva ;)

The ski season is upon us! :8

According to this page from MySwitzerland.com our Swiss airports are going to start buzzing shortly with holidaymakers on their way to the ski slopes to break a leg or two :P

So the EuroHolidays fleet requires skilled pilots to get them there (and possibly to medivac them out in the Agusta 109!)

Suggested flights (crammed full of skis in the overhead lockers) include:-

EHM H675 LFPO-LSZH (Class 3)
EHM H471 EGLL-LSZB (Class 4)
EHM H721 EIKN-LSZH (Class 5)
EHM H913 LPPT-LSGS (Class 5)
EHM H404 TNCM-LSZH (Class 7)

Better start your checklists!!

Top quality comedy is coming to Switzerland this week as the Montreux Comedy Festival returns to the shores of Lake Geneva. :P

Many of the best known stars in stand-up comedy will be flying into the region ahead of the festival's start on Tuesday 4th (and continuing until Sunday 9th) so if you're looking for a flight with a difference why not 'fly some laughs' into LSGG this week - just try and keep a straight face on finals please... ;)

There's a ton of events going on around Switzerland as we start 2008!

Some of the best ones are:-

- the 24 hour ski or snowboarding race in Villars-sur-Ollon sponsored by Jacques Villeneuve on the 12th to 13th

- the International Hot Air Balloon meet at Crans-Montana from 13th to 15th

- the World Snow Festival with snow sculpture contest at Grindelwald from 14th to 19th

- and my favourite, the International Inferno Races at Muerren from 16th to 19th...

All these events will bring snow loving travellers from far afield into our beautiful Alpine region so why not get behind your yoke and fly them here ;)

And while you're waiting for the Events to finish so you can take them all home again, I suggest you could try our own airborne version of the Inferno Races...

Pick a small jet like the Fokker 70 and fly from Sion (LSGS) to Ambri (LSPM) as close to full speed as you can and as close to the ground as you can AND as close to a direct GPS course as you can!! This should test your piloting skills nicely as you climb and descend the valleys and peaks at 300 knots :P

(Please ensure all fare paying passengers have disembarked before you try this...)

Have fun !

The World Economic Forum comes to Davos tomorrow!

As you'll see if you read this newspaper article business leaders, politicians, celebrities and the media are descending in force on the ski resort at Davos for a week of deal making and discussions! (For more information have a look here.)

Of course this means the airways will be busier than ever so all able bodied Zurich Hub pilots are requested to report to base and help bring the world to Switzerland ;)
