Bit early in the month for Online Department official involvment, but don't let that stop you taking part. Official web page is here; if you're intending to take part, *read it* (thank you).

On the 9th of June 1958, Queen Elizabeth II flew into London Gatwick in a De Havilland Heron to perform the official opening of the "new and improved" Gatwick. For many years the airport had suffered from terrible drainage, accidents and Gatwick was on the verge of being de-requisitioned by November 1949, back to private operations.

After extensive development, Gatwick became the first Airport in the World to have a direct rail service and to make use of a fully enclosed pier-based terminal after a £7.8 million make-over. Further to this, the United Kingdom Division, are proud to present:

The Real Gatwick

From 1300z until 2200z, you can fly in or out of Gatwick (or as many times as you like), using Real World call signs and flight plans. For the entire length of the event, you can expect Gatwick to be staffed from aerodrome to the London Area controllers (Delivery, Ground, Tower, 2 Directors, 4 Area Controllers). All of these controllers will be based in one room, so expect perfect flight handling, coordination and not forgetting our real world Heathrow approach controller, Gaz.

If you make two or more flights for this event, you will qualify for the "Aviation Celebration Tours and Events Award". In order to receive the award, you have to email GB-HQ with your flight numbers and time (arrival/departure). You must do this in order to receive your award. If you fail to provide the flight numbers, times or even no email, then you will not receive your award.
