Penalty 16 Pro Pilot
EHM-2117 Thomas:
Hey I was wondering how to set the altimeter to avoid getting this penalty -sorry if this sounds a bit naive.
16 Altimeter not set to standard passing FL180 55.00 You had climb after FL180 without changing your qnh to standard 29.92
Thanks
EHM-1953 Daniel:
Hi Thomas, you just have to set your barometer cailbration knob on the altimeter to the 'standard' pressure (29,92 inch/hg or 1013 KPa) when you are climbing trough FL180.
i pressume that this is used to simplify for the ATC to keep a watch at all the different a/c (and their altitude) in the air without having to regard the different barometric values across e.g. a country.. and when you are this much over the sealevel a few hundred feet up or down doesn't matter for you, but the air traffic controller is getting a much easier job ;)
correct me if i'm wrong :D
regards,
EHM-1570 Bruce:
Hi Thomas.
You set your altimeter prior to taxying by pressing the B key on your keyboard, then once you climb above 18000ft you have to set your altimeter to Std (2992) by pressing the B key again, also press the B key when you descend below 18000ft to reset the altimeter to the current altimeter setting, you may well have to press the B key several times as you descend below 18000ft in order to see the altimeter change settings. Hope this helps.
EHM-1953 Daniel:
yeah, following bruce's tip will make life just a little bit easier :> (or quite much ;) )
