Hi Thomas.
You set your altimeter prior to taxying by pressing the B key on your keyboard, then once you climb above 18000ft you have to set your altimeter to Std (2992) by pressing the B key again, also press the B key when you descend below 18000ft to reset the altimeter to the current altimeter setting, you may well have to press the B key several times as you descend below 18000ft in order to see the altimeter change settings. Hope this helps.

Well, i press the STD button just above 18000 (18100-18200) and i still take the penalty....What do i do wrong?
For example, in my last flight, according to the ACARS, i push the STD button at 18570ft.....

EHM-1617 Iain:
You need to set standard pressure when passing through the transition altitude. It varies from nation to nation, but it is listed on the departure charts. The reason that the logger uses FL180 is that in the USA, the TA is fixed at 18000, which is the highest (I think) TA in the world.

So, when passing through the TA, set 1013mb/29.92inHg. As you climb through FL180, just press B a few times to make sure that the pressure is set precisely enough for the logger. On descent, you should leave on standard pressure until descending through the transition level, which will be given by ATC if you're online - if not, it's usually fairly close to the TA.

Good luck :)

Hum, still weird. I was going to Belgrado (TA10,000) I set the local QNH just before 10,000' even though if I recall the penalty was not applied on descent.

Well, on my descent from FL310 down for FL100 I set the alt to local just before FL100 but when I see on the acars the Penalty WAS still applied when passing 20,000 feet on descent.

Another funny thing, on the flight stats for EHM4486 this route was first flown in the same A/C (F70) in 0:44 with around 2500 pounds of fuel used! something is wrong there because everybody else used 8000+ pounds in 1:30 hours or more.

EHM-0654 Murray:
Re: TA and the STD button, it very much depends on the aircraft model you are using as to whether STD sets the FS baro to 29.92. For the very complex payware aircraft (PMDG in particular) they have their own baro separate from the FS baro, and pressing STD resets their baro, rather than the FS baro (hence it's very easy to get the baro penalty in PMDG aircraft if you forget to *also* press B going through 18,000ft AMSL [Above Mean Sea Level] to reset the FS baro)

Furthermore, you need to set 29.92/Q before passing 18,000ft AMSL as far as the logger is concerned, both when on climb and on descent (so below 18,000ft AMSL on climb out, and above 18,000ft AMSL on descent) to keep FLv3 happy. The logger can be a good few hundred feet behind FS, so better to get these works out of the way a little early.

I'm sure this is something we'll be "fixing" in FLv4 (along with a number of other "unfair" penalties... the B738 is happy to climb at greater than 6,000ft/min for instance (depending on load), but that incurs the wrath of FLv3, and has annoyed me for forever...).
