Windows Vista, FS2004 and IVAP = Not working!
« on: August 21, 2008, 08:30:24 pm »
Hi mates,

I'm having a problem with my new computer.

It have Windows Vista, but IVAP doesn't run on my FS2004 because Vista doesn't have DirectPlay, a DLL necessary to work with.

Now, I don't want to use FSX (even if my notebook runs it nice) so I wonder if any of you got the same problem as myself ?

Thanks!

Hi Bruno,

simple. Copying from IVAO's support forum:

Windows Vista and DirectPlay causes numerous issues when used in combanation with firewalls or anti-virus software. These problems are not only related to FS9, but also to other games which uses multiplayer. We suggest you to also browse the forum of the publisher of the tooling to see if there are known workarounds for other games which probably work for us too.

The following issues are known with Windows Vista and IvAp/FS9 multiplayer:

Security Related Software
* Avast Antivirus causes trouble, these should be resolved when installing Avast WITHOUT the "Web Shield" of Avast.
* McAfee Security center causes trouble, not known which part of the security center.
* McAfee Anti Virus causes torubles.
* PC Cillin anti-virus causes trouble.
* Kaspersky anti-virus, version unknown.
* Norton anti-virus 2007, maybe other versions too.
* AVG firewall, in some cases, with some versions. -- disabling is sufficient here.
* Ad-Aware AdWatch 2007 (Ad-Aware itself doesn't cause trouble)

Disabling this software won't help, appearantly only uninstallation works.

Alternative viruscanners/firewalls (others might be working, but first try with uninstalled!):
* NOD32 (note: workaround needed as described here: http://forum.ivao.aero/index.php/topic,16397.0.html)
* Windows Firewall

Use of Compability Mode
1: Go to folder of FS2004 (Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9/)
2: Search for the FS9.exe
3: Right click, select properties
4: Select compatibility tab
5: Select "Windows XP SP2" from the drop down box, AND also click the option "Disable Desktop Composition".
6: Click the OK button, and you're done!

DirectX9 Installation
1) Remove any anti virus software - uninstall, don't disable
2) Get DirectX 9.0C Run Time (50MB odd)
2.1) EXTRACT the file, don't run
2.2) Execute dxsetup.exe /silent to install missing modules from DX10

Check if any of the above work and let me know :)

Hi,

Thank you Sotiris, but I already had made that with no results. The "DirectX9" installation was the one that got my attention but unfortunately it still doesn't install DirectPlay :(
