UK Pilots - X-Plane on The Gadget Show
« on: November 01, 2010, 08:57:46 pm »
Didn't realise until the last 5 minutes of the show, but The Gadget Show this week features X-Plane as part of one of their challenges (Ortis learns how to fly a circuit in X-Plane, then does it for real to see if simulators can help you learn to fly - no spoiler from me...)

UK pilots might want to catch one of the repeats, or watch it on [ Demand Five ].

Finally got to watch it from start to end last night. I loved the £45,000 Cessna simpit, but a touch too expensive for me (in one hit). Never heard of Kobalt before, but I think I will look them up, want to know if that was a triplehead-to-go they used for the displays.

When I saw it the g/f commented on it saying they had three displays.

I said it was using th2g but that my display was bigger :P hehe

http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/ - I'll stick to assembling myself though. Might upgrade my GPU or processor at some point.

This is in my amazon wishlist. @£8,599.31 excluding shipping and cutoms/excise from canada

Do you use PM for the displays or just the logic for your MCP? I'm considering them, but for my purposes, I may opt for the generic RJ Glass Cockpit Software
rathert han the boeing as it's much cheaper atm since there's no fms yet.

DSTD is on my list too ;D Yes, I'm using PM for the PFD, MCP and CDU currently... And I'll likely go to PM for the overhead logic too (PMSystems), but if something better comes along I'd look at it for sure. There's a free PM-alike that'll give you PFD (although whether it works with XP is another matter...)

I'm with you, I'd rather have absolute control over my hardware, not whatever compromises a builder chooses to make (having said that, there are plenty of compromises in my gaming rig right now... might be time for me to look to cross-grading to a bigger case that'll take a full-length GPU, and that means a new mobo...)

Not sure about the Dollar-to-pound ratio, but I think that leaves some pounds to start your PPL, if you don't have it already  ;D

Hahaha, you can get a real one for the cost of a pretend one.
