Strange problem with my FS9.1
« on: May 19, 2011, 09:08:41 pm »
Yesterday when I was trying to turn off my FS9 my computer shut down I mean the electricity was cut down in my home and after the return of the electricity I try to turn FS9 and doesn’t work I tried to turn on FS9 many times and the same result 2 or 3 seconds in my screen and then FS9 shut down, any suggestions please. I’ve FS9.1 with patch no CD FS9.exe version.

Thanks a lot :)

Something might have been corrupted when the unexpected power loss occurred. Only thing I would suggest a fresh install of FS9, but perhaps someone more au fait with FS9 will suggest something less painful.

The No CD crack version has been linked to various issues so I'd recommend going back to the original .exe.

No idea why a power cut would cause this to suddenly materialise though other than something getting corrupted as Alexander says...

Thanks Dominic, in fact I tried with the FS9.exe original but doesn't work either :'( any suggestions how to reinstall FS9 I mean is possible to do it with theses following steps if I have enough HD space:

1. Locate the current FS9 folder and rename it to something like FS9_org
2. Start the install from the CDs using the same name you originally used if other than default.
3. Start the newly installed copy once to make sure it is working ok then shut it down.
4. Copy the entire Aircraft and Gauges folders from the FS9_org to the new FS9 installation.

But I'm not sure for the scenery, I mean is possible to copy or is better reinstall too ???

Thanks again :)

Is there a preferences file that can be deleted that will be rebuilt on launch?

@ Alexander - Yes - the FS9.cfg file does exactly that. Delete the file and it gets rebuilt when you next launch FS9.

@ David - You could try that technique, I had a problem recently with an FS9 addon scenery package and followed advice for that one that I found on the web which worked perfectly, it basically said to rename your existing FS9 folder to FS9_original then reinstall a minimal copy of FS9 to your HD and once this is working you just delete the new FS9 folder and rename your original one back to Flight Simulator 9 - no need to copy everything across to the new folder. It just ensures the registry entries etc are corrected. Don't know if it will work in your situation though due to the strange origin of the problem...

EDIT - I couldn't find the thread I used myself again but here's a very similar one with clearer instructions than I've given:-

HERE

Good luck :)
