Project Magenta

Can anyone explain to me how to use SIDS and STARS with the PM CDU?

I tried to enter the SID name BPK5K but the CDU places the data and then removes the line. Manually entering all waypoints is painful.

This'll be for me then ;D

Two ways, both easy; this all assumes you have a relatively recent cycle, of course...

1. Just "cheat" (as it were) and use the DEP/ARR page to select the correct SID and/or STAR.
2. (And doing the above would show you this graphically), enter the SID as <identifier>.<exit_point> and use the appropriate LSK to enter it: BPK5K.BPK

I can heartily recommend Bill Bulfer's excellent FMC user guides - they're not particularly cheap (neither are they expensive though) but they'll teach you everything about the Boeing FMCs

Do you have pmsystems?

Recommended purchase?

I was thinking about it, but I'd really need to add a third computer to use it.

No, don't have PMSystems, but it's definitely on my long-term list.

I am toying with the idea of pmsystems and mounting one of the touchscreen monitors that have been coming out recently on a homemade bracket for the overhead - would be a cheaper option until a proper overhead could be afforded.

There's so many ways you can blow a load of cash - I see your parts selection order has been more than sensible. Part of me screams to get the MIP panel and just put in the basic hardware and screens, but without mcp and efis that's rather limited and does then stop the setup being as flexible.

Your next step is probably a yoke (I was going to get the new 737yoke pro (not on their website) but they've stopped responding to my emails. Good luck really as there's a motorised one at revolution simproducts (albeit they are on holiday too and it's not on the store)

then MIP I think as you have the mcp, cdu and throttle.

Murray: another consultation of the oracle - how do I change the n1 restrictions for each phase of flight?

This really is off the top of my head (I've not made any changes to mine), but that's likely to be the aircraft file if you're using the CDU software. Otherwise, it'll be the ini file. RTFM young apprentice padawan (wrong faction ;)), RTFM...
