EuroCargo celebrates United Nations Day - 24/10/12
« on: October 13, 2012, 03:11:28 pm »

To celebrate United Nations Day on the 24th we propose to hold a special fly-in on a route that is typical of the life saving work carried out by UN agencies in trouble spots around the world - from our Hub at Athens to Benghazi in Libya where the uprising against Colonel Gaddafi has caused chaos and deprivation.

We invite all pilots to join us on this special trip flying our UNHCR livery MD-17 (or another EuroCargo plane if you prefer) to transport much needed supplies to the civilian population as they try to rebuild their homes and lives.

Please register your interest below giving your preferred departure time (in UTC) so we can ensure the maximum number of pilots can fly together ;)

Any pilots who want to join in offline are very welcome to fly this route too on the day :)

I'll try to be on-line by 20:00 Local time, which is 18:00 Zulu time (Daylight the weekend after the event ;) ), and I propose to use the Routefinder Route:
LGAV SID VELOP UB1 MONUV UP32 NEVIK UP33 RASNO M1 WHALE DCT HLLB

Might end up departing more in the order of magnitude or 1900Z, as most of the "spies" currently do, though...

The only possibility to fly on-line by IVAO is from 1900 zulu onwards ::) and with the "Queen of the skies"  ;D

I love to take part of this event. Can anyone point me to a valid, and good working, cargo airplane for X-plane 10?
Freeware preferable ;)

I'm free from 13:00 utc+1, if possible times wise I like tot join for a group flight on Ivao.

Doing some more research on the route, I found that WHALE should be left out, because STARs at HLLB start from REDFI already.

LGAV VELOP UB1 MONUV UP32 NEVIK UP33 RASNO M1 REDFI HLLB

Hi Renaat,

I don't use X-Plane myself but I'm told there is a great payware C-17 by Virtavia. There is also a freeware one mentioned on several sites but I couldn't find a working link to it... If you try searching at X-plane.org I'm sure you'll find it.

Perhaps one of our X-Plane fans will be able to give you more specific advice ;)

I've been looking myself, but with unsatisfactory results :(

The Virtavia one looks promising, but is payware. Haven't found any decent freeware ones yet.

My first impression of  this freeware C-17 (=didn't crash on my maiden flight :)
I'll continue testing it today, hopefully I get enough flight hours to fully familiarize me with the plan for the flight wednesday.

I'm still a bit unsure about the fleet categories and pilot ranking . I'm a rank 4 flight captain atm, so may I fly the C-17 ?

EDIT: found also an UN liverly for this plane : http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=16040

For VA flyins you may fly any of our aircraft, no matter what your rank :)

For normal flights you wouldn't be able to fly a Class 6 aircraft yet as you are a Class 4 pilot but flyins are different and we want all pilots to have a chance to join in using whatever the chosen plane is for the event ;)

Renaat,

It's not an Event, you just need to assign the flight to yourself like normal, probably wait until nearer the time ;)

I may give it a go if I'm allowed to fly an aircraft other than the horrendous C-17 we have here in EHM, tried it once and promised myself to never do it again.

is possible to celebrate and fly with another EuroCargo, could be the A313 or the BAe146, but I'm not sure about "the queen of the skies", for me I'll try the C17 for practice or finally the A313. hope to see you then ;)

Thanks David, I overlooked that part of Dominic's post. Hope to be able to be there, I haven't been in a fly in for any VA for years and I really miss it. :)

So it looks like 1900Z on IVAO suits most people?

Only two days to go for anyone who hasn't spoken up yet ;)

If the internet guy does his work good and quick, and he arrives early within the timeframe he said he would be here ... I might just make it in time for 1900Z departure.
That's three big "if"s, though...
Wait and see...
