That reminds me ... next time I'll take some screenshots from outside too. To show off our very own Museum Fleet livery ;)

Thanks again, all. Hopefully we'll meet up again next week.

Great!
Today would have been impossible, Tuesday probably problematic. Wednesday is a realistic opportunity for me, so I'll try to be there then. :)

Still low clouds in my real world weather ;)

After an aborted take off due to an engine fire (I had left the engines running too long, waiting to depart. And then when I opened up the throttles to the max, #2 engine caught fire) I was almost last. Gian returned to CGC to start FL, so he was actually last in the line at that moment.

Climbing through the clouds to go VFR on top. Not entirely legal   ::)

I soon found myself in CB with thunder (very lethal in reality, very high possibility of crashing, or an electrical failure in X-Plane). So I dove down to stay under the clouds at about 2000 ft. That also meant I had to follow the coastline in order to have a possible escape in case of another systems failure.

And yes: about half-way, my #2 engine quit on me again. With lots of rudder, and an airspeed of about 100 KIAS, I managed to make a pit stop at the nearest airport (which was surprisingly close by, and on my route :))

Having restored my power source, I climbed to what would be the highest altitude needed, this leg, to avoid terrain: about 7000ft. Beautiful, mist covered mountains :)

Descending into AYKY, I needed to make a very low approach. Some 15 nm at 500 ft or less, otherwise I would be in blinding clouds... Very difficult to descern, but the other guys are out there in front of me - at AYKY already.

Finally re-united with my brothers in arms :)

One engine fire, one engine stall - what's the next leg going to bring?

20:00 h BST = 21:00 h CEST (Central European Summer Time), so in fact nothing changes,  at least for those from EU-countries!

Getting ready for departure for leg 15. David, and Gian already n the runway, Peter and myself waiting for them to clear the runway, and backtrack rwy30.

Cruising along some beautiful volcanic landscapes

It appeared that in X-Plane 10, the destination airport, AYGC (Choiseul Bay), is a grass strip in the middle of the water. Unfortunately, the grass strip is "above" the water, and does not hold a DC-3 :)
The landing ruined my flaps, and the parking break released the anchor, while I kept afloat. That's the advantage of an airplane that also comes modeled as a floats version ;)

From a higher viewpoint, the grass would still be visible ...

... but from ground level, I'm just driving on water, with my airplane  ??? ::)

Finally a flight without any difficulties. No engine failures etc. Still, as the screenshots of EJ show above, strange situations, caused by different scenerie-interpretations.

My screenshots however show that the virtual world almost can meet with the real world.

As before, here are some screenshots of last nights online flight: leg16  from Choiseul Bay Airport to Auki Airport in the Solomon Islands. That taking screenshots isn't without any danger, that's what Eric-Jan noticed: instead of getting a beautiful picture, the key combination on X-plane did eject him from his seat. A restart in Choiseul was necessary to get him back on track. A lot of crosswind made it very hard to put the DC3 on the coral runway of Auki Airport, but the scenery along the way was magnificent.

If it's ok by Eric-Jan, David and Gian the next flight of the Tropic Traders Tour will take place on Wednesday the 17th of April at 20:00 h (GMT+1h)!
It doesn't happen often, but unfortunately not all the Doodle-entries correspondent. So if there's any change, Gian, of adjusting your possibilities....?

Meet you on Mumble!

Wednesday sounds good to me :)

Previous flight, we discussed escape hatches in the DC-3 (due to my unfortunate eject after pressing the wrong button while wanting to take a screenshot  ::))

Here's the escape hatch in the PH-PBA (former Prins Bernhard DC-3, now operated by DDA, Dutch Dacota Association):

Unfunately, I will not be able to meet you on Wednesday at the usual time. I maybe available at around 10-10.30 (CE time) only, and sitting at the arrival airport just to see you on final  ;) !
All the best

Yesterday's flight from AGGA to AGGL, leg 17 of the Tropic Traders Tour, went smoothly. In clear and calm weather we flew in about 2 hours to Santa Cruz airport. Unfortunately the scenery consisted for 300nm of just water. Nevertheless Eric-jan, David, Trevor and I did enjoy ourselves very much. So the screenshots are just  those of the arrival at AGGL.
