FAJS/Johannesburg is missing from AIRAC ?!
« on: February 06, 2013, 11:08:07 pm »
Hi mates !

I just completed a flight to Johannesburg on PMDG 747F. Funny thing was that airport FAJS is unknown for PMDG. Although I found a complete list of SID and STAR procedures for FAJS, the airport is unknown. Anyone may know where this info is stored, I could add perhaps the missing airport to the list...

Thanx !

All the info is held in folder FS9/FMCWP/NavData/wpNavAPT.txt for airport runway locations and separately under FS9/PMDG/SIDSTARS for the data used for approaches so the airport needs to appear in both and with the same details (ie the runway designators match etc) or you get an error code.

Are you using the AIRAC that came installed with the plane or an updated package?

Thank you Dom !

I did not find that database :) I recently updated to AIRAC 1301... I checked now the files in the FMCWP folder , and bingo ! FAJS was missed out from the 1301 release :) I think I put the airport back from the backup version.

So I modified the topic title, because PMDG knows Johannesburg, but the main AIRAC database forgot it :)

Good news, makes it easier to land when the plane doesn't just look at you quizzically, eh  ;D

Yes, exactly. I had to program "her" that we will land on the neighbor airfield and had to do everything manually at the end :) What a pity ! Return flight will be easier now.

The ICAO FAJS code no longer exists. The airport was renamed to OR Tambo International a few years ago, and recently and the ICAO code has been change to FAOR. Thus the latest AIRACS will no longer have FAJS, but will have FAOR.
I'm not sure how to rename the airport and change the ICAO code in FSX, maybe someone else does.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Des, hadn't noticed that change. I'll have to have a look and see what we can do about that given that FS9 and FSX both use the old code, not sure about X-Plane which is more likely to be updated in that regard ;)
