Title: Historic Dutch East Indies Route Event - Register here
Post by: EHM-2097 Andrei on December 09, 2009, 06:51:10 am
Hi all,

As winter comes in Europe, let's take a break and visit some warmer places! 80 years after the spectacular commercial route from Amsterdam to Batavia was opened, EuroHarmony reenacts the adventure as a new ProPilot event. And unlike our previous events, this one may be flown in "top gear" speed or "low and slow" on participant's choice.

For details, read the event page on the web site in the "Pilots/Events" section.

If you want to be part of this adventure, post a message in this very thread stating your EuroHarmony ID and type of aircraft requested.

Good luck to all participants and see you in Jakarta (in two months, that is  8) )

Andrei

There is a strong possibility that I will go overseas for a job starting Jan 09 and returning Feb 04 but it still needs to be confirmed. Based on that I will delay my registration for the event until the last moment. I really want to be in the event. F100.

No problem Hector, I will setup your airplane anyway. As long as it's virtual, Schipol airport won't ask us for airport fees :)

First post particiipant list updated.

For all participants: you are warmly advised to do an "early check" that you can lock your aircraft and first leg, so that any (hopefully none  ;D ) issue can be timely fixed. Don't forget the show starts tomorrow!

For everyone else: c'mon guys, winter is coming to Europe (snowing like crazy here since last night  :o ), don't you wish to escape (virtually) to a warmer climate !?

Would love to participate but I'm away on holiday for the first three weeks... (which reminds me...)

If we can arrange a final leg fly-in, and I'm back in the UK for it, I'll take part...

Same here: airplane is there (PP-A72), but unable to lock a flight yesterday. Tried again a minute ago, but still no luck.

I do intend to start this evening ...  ;)

Seems to be working now (and it looks like Bruce managed to lock his flight too). There may be a time issue related to flight scheduling, I will check this.

Please say if you still have problems.

@Christopher: No problem, I will create your aircraft later today.

Negative.  Still no available flight for PP-A72...

Will try again in a couple of hours (when it's the end of my working day)

You can try now, I did a small change that may arrange things. Unfortunately I cannot try myself, I think the problem was with the F100s while the F50 worked fine.

Auch!

Just had a very hard landing at LFMV; cost me 900 PP penalty points (both the "excessive G-force" penalties combined). A sudden gust of tailwind dropped my IAS from about 140 to 110, which plummeted me on the tarmac.
I also pushed the landing light button on my throttle quadrant when I wanted to push the landing gear button... totaling to 1070 PP penalty points :(

Well, I guess I should be happy that I did not get a stall penalty too. Or even worse: crash the plane at flight number 1 ...  :o

Better luck next time, eh?
See y'all underway to Napoli!

Well, for me I preferred the "old-style 100% visual" navigation and reached Avignon by following rivers and motorways. In FSX the terrain is amazingly similar to what Google Earth shows, the only "challenge" remaining was for my PC to support both programs running simultaneously :)

That's why I choosed the slower plane in the first place...

And VFR will become even more attractive in the next legs as shorelines are a piece of cake to follow.

See you in Naples indeed!

Last late night (early morning in Europe) I started Leg 1 only to find out that the booking had been unlocked. My mistake. I forgot that 3 a.m UTC was 10:30 pm local. I started the engines at 10:29 pm local which means that the log started at that time also just one minute before the system automatically sends the email.
It is clear that the system only checks whether the pirep has been sent and not if the flight is active by the time the email is activated.
Anyhow, this is my second time. The first was a 9 hr flight but this was only 2 hrs. No sweat. I don't know if the system could be programmed to check if the lflight is in progress before sending the mail.
Another thing is that the website was very, very, very slow last night. The complete home page could not be shown so I could not check that my flight was not recorded as a PP flight. The time the PIREP filed and saved was fast but when clicked to send it to EHM it stopped. I had to refresh several times and re-send it. That's why there are 4 reports. However, sending it to IVAO was no problem. That's why I think the problem was in EHM server.

Hi Bruce,

I'm sure Andrei will come back to you on the not being able to lock your light just yet (same holds for me... tried at 11:35(Z) ).
For as far as the date is concerned, you have from today until the 3rd of Januari to complete the next two legs. This is undoubtedly done to accommodate those that have holiday plans in this time of year ;)
Further down the route, the time restrictions get a little tighter, but not as tight as during the Croissièe Noire event :)

Cheers,
Eric-Jan

Hi guys,

Thanks for your trust and patience, this should be OK by now.

And it's aaaallll my fault of course. In the beginning I only defined the first two legs, expecting to define the new legs as I would have flown the event myself. What could go wrong? Answer: generally, EVERYTHING .

My video card gave way in a most dramatic way, worked only on VGA (ever imagined how XP looks in 640x480 :) ?) and crashed my PC within minutes from any attempts to set a more human configuration...

So had to buy a new card, reinstalled pretty much all, and only now saw the consequences of my over-optimistic planning.

To end the story here, please say if it's still not OK (I have unfortunately no means to do an actual test), I will stay on stand-by to check it again.

@Domingos: Just added your aircraft (for the reasons mentioned in my preceding post), I hope too it's not too late (you should do the first leg no later than tomorrow). Tell me if you run into any problems.

OK, I can lock my LIRN-LGAV flight now, Andrei. Thanks :)

(I did not actually lock it, but I tried it, and it gave me the one flight to choose from. So that's all working for me now)

And sorry to hear about your GFX card giving up on you. Must be stressful at a time like this ... I know you are putting a lot of time in EHM these days (thank you for that), and then this is just about the last thing you would want to happen. Glad you got it all up and running again:)

Cheers,
