FlightGlobal.com, the online arm of Jane's "Flight International" magazine, now offers a free, live flight tracker (http://www.flightglobal.com/atlas/map/) on their website which allows you to see data about aircraft flying all around the world, it's in beta testing stage at the moment so there may be slight glitches but looks promising.
By clicking on a plane symbol, you can find out all about it - airline, origin and destination, flight number and speed plus aircraft type and registration. It's quite a nice application, worth a look for a few minutes if you'd like to see what planes are coming in to land at your local airport ;)

Hello all,
In addition and respons to Dominics contribution: since a few months I'm using Flightradar24 on my tablet. It looks almost the same as the Flighttracker, but has much more options, like a 7700 emergency warning. It's available in a free and paid version at http://www.flightradar24.com/about_android.php.
