I have just switched from hotmail to gmail (mail by google) and I love it. I suggest that hotmail users (and others) give it a try as their webmail servise because the ads are much less intrusive and faster to load.
You get 2gig storage and it goes up all the time, you can google search your mail, and it has lots of features.
The problem is that you need an invite to join, you cannot just sign up. I discovered this website where you can get an invite. People send their spare invites in and you can go and pick one up for free. I send all my spare invites there.
http://isnoop.net/gmail/ (http://isnoop.net/gmail/)
Enter the anti-bot key and the address that you would like the invite sent to (your current email, not your new Gmail one, you don't know what it is yet).
Try it out, I don't think you will be disappointed.
A screenshot, showing the conversation view, shows all replies like a forum thread, nice feature.

And Gmail works in outlook express, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc..
You just need to activate the pop server in your preferences. The connection to the server is encrypted on the SSL port on the opposite of many mail accounts.
Cheers.

Isn't Gmail free for all now?
-
It's free but as it's still in beta version, you need an invitation.
-
As was mentioned earlier, an invite can be collected by visiting http://isnoop.net/gmail
-
hmm i thought they got rid of the invitation a few months back......looks like i was mistaken :$ any one needs invitations? i have about 50 left
-
"Currently, we have 1,202,237 invites available to share." This is how many isnoop have at the moment - http://isnoop.net/gmail ;) Its good, people send their spare invites in and anyone can go and pick one up for free. You don't even have to give invites back (however I give them all my invites, and would encourage you to Lim as well, that way you are sharing gmail across the whole world).
-
yeah if anyone wants an invite then i have about 50 aswell, all you need to do is ask!!
-
Alright i'll donate them as soon as i've distributed some of them to my friends :)
-
why would i want to donate them???
i might need them at some point in time!!!
-
But you get more invites pretty soon anyway! And the people who need them can visit isnoop as above! Your opinion, not mine though Chris. I'm not forcing you.;)
-
Doesn't sound right to me....I wont be doing that...sorry. Just seems wrong :|.
The way to get them off me is to ask, I am never going to say no while I have more than 5 (still on 50 at the mo) :8
-
Your choice people. I don't see the peoblem as no extra invites are being created, but up to you.;)
-
Wow, more people that I originally thought use Gmail aleady. Post a message below if you use Gmail already, just to guage how many of us do. Ill start:
-
I use Gmail (obviously).
-
I do, with 2 accounts, but not using them as main yet.
More like testing purpose and I still have some pop stuff to fix with it.
-
I use it too but it's not my main one yet
-
i use it and it is mine. i use to use it to send mp3 to my friends
-
yeah i use it
as my secondary account...mainly for use with MSN (created a net passport for it and then away i go)
although i also have accounts with many other companies
-
well, i still don't use gmail cause i can't sign up for it. According to the conversation it seems that we need some kind of invitation. I went to the site mentioned above (http://isnoop.net/gmail) but it has been disabled. If anyone still has any of these invitations that can help me out, i would be very thankful.
-
Send me your email to bruno@euroharmony.com please. I will send you an invitation.
-
thanks bruno, i have sent you an e-mail containing my email adress.
Thanks, Pedro Grancha
