Title: Anybody knows Russian ?
Post by: EHM-1001 Robert on June 25, 2005, 10:38:48 pm
Hi folks,

I found a text on a Russian aircraft overhead panel, and I cannot understand its meaning. It is written in cyrill letters as CAPD (pronounced as "sard" in English) and it has some buttons, even have a separate screen on the engineering displays, so it must be an important engineering system, I guess.

I discovered many others, like "CKB" is A/C system, or "BCY" is APU, or DBG means engine, but I cannot do anything with this CAPD ...

Thanks for help.

Hmmm I left Flanker 2 / Lock On a while ago, the few I knew fade away ^^. I can ask old buddies I was flying with in patrol, most of them know russian and are psychos when it's about russian avionics.
Maybe you can precise what the aircraft model is...

This is not the military world :) I have seen this text on some passenger aircraft cockpits, like Il-86, Il-96, Tu204...

Here is an example:

Robert,

I studied Russian at school back in the 80's but we didn't cover much about aircraft systems, just how to ask your way to the Post Office...:P And the Russian dictionaries I've got didn't help either.

However a short Google search led me to a site you might want to visit: http://www.aviation.ru/FAQ/IK/faq_3.html

I've checked this English-Russian Aviation Dictionary and I can't find any exact matches to 'SARD' but many of the other buttons in your picture contain abbreviations to their systems. So I think the closest match may be in Section 8 - the Pressurization System (Sistema Regulirovaniya Davleniya v Kabinye) as the main three words start with S,R and D... the SA maybe being an abbreviation for SistemA?

The Cabin Pressure system would seem a logical button to be near the Air Conditioning button too... It's a guess but a reasonably educated one I think ;) If anyone knows better, I'd be quite happy to be proved wrong ;D

Hope this helps!

Hi Dominic!

Thanks for the answer and the link. It is a perfect guess, I think ;D I thought about the same, as I found the SARD panel section always near the Ventilation/Air Conditioner panels. Now I only have to find out, what are those 3 buttons used for?

Thanks again :)

1 : Inflate plane
2 : Deflate plane
3 : Explosive decompression (when passengers bug you)

All right, told you it was a long time ;D
