What happens to the aircraft after you have landed with a failure, is the failure corrected once you release the aircraft, or is it taken out of service for a period of time.

It is taken out of time. But the failure needs to be "given" by the Flight Logger, not the normal random failures that you can choose on the flight simulator ...
