Title: Flight to Bhutan
Post by: EHM-1798 Conrad on January 01, 2006, 05:22:52 pm
Well ive just joined Euro Harmony and now have cloked neerly 5 hours of flight time,

but the main reason for posting this topic is that i have just got back from the first school expedition to Bhutan (In the himalayas - sandwidged between nepal, tibet and india).

This was the most breath taking, and most nerving flights i have been on.

The Druk Air Airbus A319 descended into a large valley in which paro Airport is located, the plane turned in the valley; flying around all the spurs and then at the last minute turned around a small hill with the wing around 10 - 20 meters from some local houses before slamming down onto the runway at paro (a very short runway i must add).

I have some pictures and i and many other pilots would call this airport to have the most demanding approach in real life.

16 - 17,000 ft mountains all around to airport, all visual approach, winds are likely to change directions along the runway and speeds, on final having to make a last minute turn to get on the runway without smaking into a mountain.

+ the runway is exceedingly short!  The icao is VQPR

Ive done the approach on FS2004 and sadly it isnt much like the real thing.

Here are some pics!
