Title: Why do we have a A340-600 in our Fleet?
Post by: EHM-1760 Sven on February 04, 2006, 11:38:16 am
Hi,

some days ago I bought me the A330/A340 from PSS. Later I searched for Euroharmony textures and I found the
A330-300. Than I realized that we have a A340-600. But why don't we have an A340-200 or an A340-300? I think it would better to have aircrafts with "more" realistic panels and properties in our fleet than this freeware has it;)

Hi Sven,

I agree that it's nicer to fly with as much realisme as possible, that's why i fly PMDG's 738 and 744 and PSS's A332 and i've just bought the new 772LR. But.... not everyone is capable or does not want to pay for the models i gues that's why.

greets,
Niels

Hi folks,

it is a hard question, because there are many points next and against the decision. Some facts:

The A340-600 was selected for the fleet about 3 years ago. Since then, PSS and freeware POSKY released their 200/300 series airplane. The aircraft itself is as big, and almost as heavy as our A330-300. Only the range and cargo capacity is different. The 600, and later 500 variant was a record holder in long distance flying. These are much heavier, and longer than the 300 variant, therefore nicely fit into Class 7 at EuroHarmony. The A340 is not very popular at EHM...maybe because of this question, maybe not...who knows. The current EHM model was built for FS2000 so it is rather old. 2 freeware groups have already been working on the famous 500 variant. That will be replaced as soon it will arrive. The current plane will be maintained in the near future, and will be renewed.

What I can advice to PSS owners now, is to use our freeware model with the PSS panel.

I think I will use the PSS panel at least when I am allowed to fly this aircraft. I unterstand the reason. I will wait for the 500 and that it will be a bit better;D

I have tried merging the freeware aircraft with the PSS panel with no success. If anyone has any idea how to do this without loosing the functions of the panel, please could they let me know.

The main reason I don't use the A340 is because I would prefer to fly the PSS A330. If we had a way of merging the PSS panel with our freeware A340-600, I would definately use the A340.

With regards to Roberts point above about the A340 not seeing much action, to a certain extent the same can be said for the 747 as well. (Lately most long haul flights I have seen have been 777's or MD11's) I think one of the reasons for this is because there is no advantage to flying long haul in Propilot. Maybe the FAC score could some how take in to account hours flown or PAX carried. I think alot more people would fly longer flights if this was the case.

Hi all,

I don't think you can link the PSS panel to the A340-600, because the MDCU is made for the A340-300, so the fuel usage, weights and speeds are incorrect. Flying without the MDCU is not really realistic for an Airbus, no fun to me.

Well,

I do not have the A340, so I cannot give you a solution, it was only an idea. I am sorry to hear that it is not work.

And about the long haul flights, I can tell you that before ProPilot, the 747 was one of the most favourite airplanes. There was not a single pilot who have not tried it when reached ATP level, although there were many smaller planes that were unused by many.

I am not a big Airbus fan, but you can see, we tried to keep balance when selected the planes, and you can see that from class 5...7 it is all about technological "war" between Airbus and Boeing. Unfortunately the A340-300 is not a competitor for the B747-400 according to the EHM class system.

Oh no! Somebody is gonna mention the A380 before long!!! ;)

I agree Robert, until the A340-600 ther really wasn't any competition for the jumbo, and really the A340 still comes up short as far as capacity goes. (Although its cost per person / per mile is lower) I must admit, I've watched a lot of cockpit videos from the A340 and she really does everything for the pilot! ( check out www.A340.net to see a Kai Tak approach made easy ) Shame PSS haven't modeled the 600, although there is a lot of lobying in their support forums for them to update all the Airbuses. I guess we will have to stick with what we have got for now and see what FSX brings! (I hear it has an Airbus model in the default fleet!)

Than there is still the problem with the A330.
There are members of EHM that have problems with the A330.gau file. (me included!) There are many 'solutions' on the forum, but none is working properly...

Maybe it's an idea to solve this problem first before using this aircraft in the fleet...?

Easiest way is to change the panel for one that you find is OK. There are several very nice ones at both avsim and flightsim as well as many other sites.

Conimus, you could always use the standard 777-300 panel from FS2004, it's not a bad panel and although not an airbus panel, it gets you flying!

Are you guys going to make a repaint for the CLS A-346 with the EHM colours, if there is not one yet?

Hi all, I didn't read every answer to this post, but regarding the "unpopularity of the A340 in EHM"...
Personally, I fly on Boeing, you know why ? Because the payware (PMDG, LDS) versions are very complete.
I tested PSS and I wasn't satisfied. PMDG is now working on the Airbus family, and it's my bet that when they will release those planes, Airbus will become more popular among hardcore simmers ;)
It was my 3 cents.

1) Like the planes
2) Like the Fly-by-wire
2) Had a experience of a life time at their HQ involving a rather exciting hydrolic simulator of one of the *newer* planes  ;)

Excellent! Would be interesting to know what you meant by *newer* lol. Are you allowed to speak, or is it confidential? ;D

I haven't heard some very very good things about PSS... but of course PMDG is a far better developer so they should have some good Airbus family aircraft ;)

I think Conrad meant the hydraulic simulator of the A380 ;) Although I am related to Boeings I am amazed of the majesty of the A320 and A330. I think Airbus makes visually and average much nicer planes than Boeing, bute love is just love ;D so, go Boeing !

Probably we must wait until the MD-11 is finished before we can expect more info about the progress of the A320 from PMDG

Well from reading the PMDG Fora, I gleamed that the development line is

1) MD11
2) 747 & 747F updates for FSX (Expected in approx 6 months after release of FSX and there will be a charge for it)
3) 737NG for FSX. this will be a brand new ground up working of the NG so it is expected to be 12 months at least.
4) A32x Family for FSX.... Your guess is as good as mine!

Well, they said they were gonna start a family.
I think we can expect more than A32x family, we may have an A3xx family. Who knows, they may even do the A380 some day, if they can get some cooperation from Airbus...

Now for the delay, don't forget they work on about 2 projects at once... So, yes, around 18 months seems realistic to me, though it's only a lucky guess.

P-F, Then there is the standard delay that comes with new Airbus models! We will get a least 3 announcement of delays before final delivery! :] (Maybe PMDG can make sure there will be no wiring problems on their Airbuses!)
