Ok what I want you people to do is try and take off and do a curcuit of the airport called SESM (i think).
Just gonna say, be aware that its a nasty airport!;D
Post you screens here!
-
OK ive just tried about 3 times to get out of the bowl and its really hard. I even did it with a prop plane. I think the only way out of there it with a foghter jet.
p.s. dont try with a jumbo, its nasty!
-
I knew this airfield already.
You can get out of the bowl with a cessna, just make sure to listen to the stall horn and keep turning. :P
Should have an old screenshot in here

Also tried the Fokker 70 and almost made it.
-
I gave it a go and boy was that hard! Obviously a problem with the terain mesh, I think it needs a patch? lol. Anyway, I then attempted to land. It didn't seem to hard until I had to carry out a very steep decent which meant I glided over half of the runway before toutching down! ;D . I was successful and here are the results:

On virtual.planepictures.net (http://virtual.planepictures.net) I found a couple of pics that would indicate that bigger birds took off from there:
You think they were cheating?
-
I'll give it some tries later on, and I'll let you know of the results... right now I'm flying LSZH-LHBP in the CRJ ;D
-
Ok, I did it...
First, I tried with the CRJ 200ER... Getting out of the crater was no problem, but landing was impossible. At best I managed to touch down about 100ft from the end of the rwy... so not enough room to stop it.
Getting out of the crater in the CRJ 200ER:
But then I realised that there is one plane in the EHM fleet that could do it (besides the ones in the VFA) Antonov 140 ;D
Getting out was no problem:

Ok, now let's try to get back in there... full flaps, landing gear down, spoilers, and a very hard slide:
Lining up, a little high over the tresh-hold:

Touch down - a little to the right though - and full stop, with plenty of rwy left:

Ok, so it can be done :8
-
But they did it with a 737? :)
-
No, they did it in a DC-10 ;)

Very nice !!;)
Good job, and excellent pics ..

That's a DC-10?
-
I think it's fake...
A DC-10 needs more then the 1500 meters of runway SESM provides to t/o and land

I agree with you, but the picture in my first post is a DC-10.

Im not sure whats its called but I havent made it out yet. Its like the Bemuda Triangle for me :o
-
Oh theres a site about it with airport plates for it... I will try and find them.
-
OK ive found some info here it is...
-The airport is just a hole in the earth because Microsoft obviously overdid the mesh terrain in this case :-).
-Make a short trip from SEAM to SESM, approx. 30 NM.

Yeah...
And still the same questions are asked :%
-
I remember the airport was included in FS2000 too and it looked just the same. Also it's possible to make it in a DHC-6.
-
Hmm i think i'll try it too if it's in FS2002.......hey guys we really need to stop thrashing the company's planes trying to climb out of that hole! ;D ;)
-
Yeah this idea seems bad...
Wonder how many planes in our fleet we've lost;)
-
Try to land at BIIS, I almost crashed the plane 3 times until I managed to land (it was on IVAO).
Other dangerous airfields are VNLK and LFLJ.
-
VNLK (Lukla, Nepal) isn't too easy, either ;D
-
Ooops... sorry Gergely, I didn't see it in your post :%
-
I tried SESM to in a B737. It took me 4 times to get the plane on the runway. In a rather passenger-unfriendly way. I brought the plane in a stall, started a lot of prayers, and pushed the thrust-levers full forward, pulled the nose up, bounced a long the runway and came to a stop with a few meters to spare. I'm still trying to get the plane out of this godforsaken hole.
-
For me Kai-Tak will always be the most challenging airport.
That checkerboard scares the hell outta me when approaching in an 747. d**n...
-
Ive landed at the new airport I think it was at Hong Kong. Its was kinda hard cos it was in a 747 and it was really foggy. Lucky I know how to use ILS ;)
It was a perfect landing in a 747 for me. Well the first time I landed it :%
-
You flew a 747 ..?? I don't recall you having the rank for that :%
-
You flew a 747 ..?? I don't recall you having the rank for that
I don't recall a rule about flying the plane of your choice on non-scheduled EHM flight as long as you don't report it, right?
-
Try the airfield called SABA (that's the ICAO code if I remember correctly). It's a small airstrip on a vulcano island near the netherlands antilles. My mom used to visit that island frequently in a Twin Otter, but even with a Cessna this is one impossible airstrip for me!
-
Lets get some pics of it!!!
Cheers
Rich

I live 500nm from that place .!! I currently recide on Curaçao {ICAO: TNCC}
Believe when I tell you that it's even scarier if ur on that plane as an passenger !!
Regards,
-
You're right Tiberiu there doesnt seem to be any rules against that :P

I didnt fly a EHM flight with it, it was a flight from a site I found.
-
Try airliners.net for pictures of landing s at SABA ... very frightening
-
Good God... remember Lukla (VNLK)?
A plane just crashed trying to land there (May 25th).
It was a De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300 operated by Yeti Airlines, reg 9N-AFD, and was flying a cargo load from Kathmandu. At that the time of the crash there was heavy cloud buildup over the 3,600 m Lamjura Pass which planes have to cross to get into Lukla. All three people on board were killed. RIP
:[
-
I made it with the learJet... I had to fly aginst the walls first to the left and then across and then against the other wall and turn steep right.. (ps All turns was extremly steep..ds) but I made it out.. I got a screenshot, but how do I get it in here? :P

Here goes

First you need to upload the image to the internet. If you do not have your own webpage upload it to imageshack.us or another image host
Thanks

Whoops forgot to mention the hosting part :P
LOL at Alex's linked picture....they call that a runway?! :] :o
-
Just for laughs try an airport in Washington State - ICAO: 15S...the runway is only 400' because it's meant for ultralights but it's a beautiful area to fly in because it's so close to Mt. Rainier
-
Well, I always wanted to try these airports, so tonite I will give it a go.
Do you remember the movie Air America ? There was a tricky airstrip there too, which was in a hills side. It was easy to land because after touchdown, the plane should hillclimb, so it stopped soon. Takeoff was also funny... downhill ;D
-
While flying about in Eastern Europe, I found some interesting places:
LW0C, LW0D, LW0E etc - I wonder what kinds of planes can land/take off on these airfields...
LAKO - Another 'hole in the ground' style airport
enjoy! :)
-
I know this is off topic, the the forum has changed.
-
Are there really any real "hole in the ground" airport in real life? Keep hearing about so many of them in FS......
-
Ok, another nice one... :D
Go to the airport VILH and select runway 6 or 24 in the menu. Now try to take off from there! :)
-
bringing this thread back alive with a bang, after reading this thread, i decided to try and takeoff from rwy 7 of VNLK...of course not with just any plane...
on the runway...
Rotate!
Climb...
Almost there...
half of the plane out...
Success!
the mighty Su-35 does it!
-
Wow Javier, that's wild!
-
ahahaha I think that only an helicopter can repeat that......maybe with a kite is easier ahahaha
Wild!
-
Nah,tried a Heli and it cant do it either, not even the F-35B(X-35 VSTOL)
erm...anyone got a kite aircraft??;D
