...train me for my first time online?
I cant request at the Request page as it says that my ID or password is incorrect.
do i have to enter the EHM password or the IVAN password?
Thanks
Hoping to fly online soon;D
-
Hi Javier,
Please talk to Murray Crane. He is the online flight director and he will help you.
If he can't help you, he will direct you to other MT member.
Regards,
-
ok! i'll send him an email right away.
-
I think I might be able to train you. The really big thing on IVAO is Phraseology. I should be able to help with that, as I've read a 200 page manual about it. If Murray can't do it, I can always help.
-
whats phraseology?
would be happy to let you train me though;D
However, there is one thing to consider-time
im +8 GMT time, your in england and im in singapore, you may need to do that in the morning while i do it at night...
-
That's fine. It just has to be on a sunday for me.
Phraseology is the study of how you say things in Flying. like,
PILOT: EGLL ground, EHM1883 at gate 368, ready for startup and pushback.
ATC: EHM1883, Startup and pushback approved. Call when ready to taxi
PILOT: Startup and pushback approved, wilco (will comply) EHM1883
-
Mehehehe.... wilco ;)
Sorry, just had to point that out ;D
-
roger!;D
-
I read the EHM Online Flying Manaul the other day and I have seen lots of "Roger's" and "Wilco's";D;D;D
Lots of those phrases too. I thought my brain was gonna explode...
-
Well, when I went to IVAO, they say their goal is to have the best complex but easy online flying system. I thought their goal was to stuff as many PDF files as possible, and confuse you!
But, I have done 2 flights and I have already remebered the whole lot of stuff you need to say (I still have trouble with sqauwks. I really want to say "Sqauwking 1254) Everyone on IVAO is willing to help, and if you do come across someone nasty in ATC, ask on Unicom. If their nasty on Unicom (which they shouldn't be, as there's alot more people on unicom then ATC). I just hope you don't come into a bad situation like I did once. Here is how it went:
ATC: EHM1883, switch to EGLL_N_TWR
(I then switched)
Me: EGLL_N_TWR, EHM1883 with you, at FL300
ATC: Hello Matthew I haven't seen you in a long time. Hows your half term?
Me: What? How did you know me?
ATC: I'm your chemistry teacher.
I paused then, and then looked at IVAE, then map, and it was her!
At least I know that my chemistry teacher has other hobbies. I don't look forward at seeing her tomorrow.
-
Hahahahaha....
-
I'd hate seeing one of my teachers on IVAO. lol
Any good at the ATC? :P
-
she made me go around twice!
-
Gr8 story. At least you know you're chemistry teacher has a cool hobby ... that or she's a control freak!

Hey Mathew, I just hope she hasn't been watching the Hollyoaks story of the Teacher and the Pupil! LOL
-
I was chatting to Javier, and we came up with some good replies.
ATC: EHM1883, please report homework in sight
Me: Negative, Homework is not in sight EHM1883
and that's a good one phil lol!
-
Yes, that was quite a lively conversation we had last night Matt ;)
-
apart from the whole "Whos country is worse" it was good. I felt a bit guilty later, so sorry if I said anything wrong;)
I've got that teacher tomorrow. I'm kinda worried!
-
Lol, there was no problem. I'm WAY too patriotic...!!!
And good luck with that teacher!! You might want to request clearance to take your seat just in case ;)
-
lol;)

I find this hard to believe... EGLL_N_TWR does not exist and is not a valid IVAO callsign. And the IVAO ATC tracker shows me that that callsign has never been used.
And wich very dumb 'ATC' would switch you over to TOWER, at FL300 (30000 feet) :%
-
I'm going to be kind and assume Matt meant EGLL_N_APP... ;D
BTW, Javier/Matt... If you guys want to arrange a mutually agreeable time for a "chat" about online flying, I'll see if I can be there too to offer assistance/advice. Javier, if you've read the Online Flying Manual (v1.4 or later) you already have a list of software you'll need. Please make sure you have installed IvAp and TeamSpeak2 before you "turn up" to any training sessions :D
Oh, and regarding radiotelephony - http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?categoryid=33&pagetype=65&applicationid=11&mode=detail&id=247
That's the UK CAA radiotelephony document; CAP413. UK "pilots" could do worse than actually having a copy of (and reading) it.

Hi!
I have IVAP, IVAE but i do not have teamspeak2 yet. where can i get it?
-
nevermind about that, i found it.
But how do i connect? i dont know the server name.
Could someone tell me what to write on each of the blanks after pressing quick connect?
-
Wee... big can of worms opens up before you Javier ;D
Ordinarily, IVAP will take care of all the IVAO channel switching for you (it's good like that...) but for the purposes of testing, you're going to want something reasonably close to you... try:
Server: "cn1.ts.ivao.aero"
Nickname: "<EuroHarmony Callsign> - <Firstname>"
Login Name: "<IVAO VID>"
Password: "<IVAN Password>"
so (almost) for me:-
Server: "cn1.ts.ivao.aero"
Nickname: "EHM654 - Murray"
Login Name: "140864"
Password: "<SECRET>"
Then, for any servers you are going to be using regularly (IVANNL for the EHM company channel, EHM_VA, for instance) set up a Connect\Servers entry - right click in the "Connect To Server" window and add a server, then much the same as above...
EDIT: And very, very important for the IVAO TS network, set the bandwidth settings in TS2 to 32kbits/s both up and download *before* you go connecting to any of the IVAO TS servers.
-
i got the first part but the second part, do i use the same server adress?
and what do i label it?
EDIT: I just saw a server named -=]EHM[=-Teamspeak server.
is this the correct one? i saw that the country was Germany.
-
For ordinary Connect servers (these remain between TS restarts...):
Label: "<Anything you want>"
Server Address: "<IVAN TS Server>"
Nickname: "<EHM Callsign> - <Firstname>"
Allow server to assign nickname: UNCHECKED
Anonymous: UNCHECKED
Registered: CHECKED
Login Name: "<IVAO VID>"
User Password: "<IVAN Password>"
Everything else blank/unchecked
So, I have a Connect server like this:
Label: IVANNL
Server Address: nl.ts.ivao.aero
Nickname: EHM654 - Murray
Login Name: 140864
User Password: <SECRET>
Hope that helps Javier.
-
By teh way Rico, I think I got the FL wrong, and I was thinking of Approaches at the same time.
-
I have got it connected but it said that i was connected to the IVAO Netherlands Teamspeak server. Am i connected to the corrected server?
-
Javier,
;D
By the sound of it you copied my IVATNL example, so yes, you would have connected to IVATNL. If you've got IvAe installed, it's "Network" tab lists all active network and TS servers, so you've lots of opportunity to test your TS installation. (Edit: noticed in IvAe that the voice network is called IVAT, not IVAN)
-
Thanks;D
Now to get online flying;D
-
Javier,
Welcome to the flock. Once you get the whole flying online thing, you'll rarely want to fly offline.
As Matt intimated, the "hard" part of flying online is getting the procedures/phraseology correct; after that it's just pointing the airplane in the right direction (which you should already know how to do ;))
Read through the OFM a few times, then pick a quiet airfield that has control and fly a local flight (an VFR or IFR circuit, or a short field-to-field hop) - your best bet would be flying from a small field when a local CTR controller in online and doesn't have a lot of traffic; CTRs tend to have higher ATC ratings and as such can offer you far more advice.
Don't forget to add a remark to your flightplan that you are new to online flying ("RMK NEWBIE" always works) and that way all ATC should be a lot more forgiving.
-
I've never flown circuits before...
If IFR, do they tell you to turn when you have to?
I am a total newbie at this;)
-
They shouldn't need to.
Take off, call airborne.
Turn left or right, keep flying, the left or right again, call downwind.
Fly until the runway is 45deg over your shoulder, turn base, call base, radio will clear you to turn final, turn and call final, then they give you clearence to land or touch and go.
-
ok, i'll try that when i have the time:)
-
Only other difference you may possibly get is:-
- Take off, call airborn, climb rwy heading - Controller replies "Report final" (readback "Will report final <callsign>")
- Thru 750AGL turn left/right, continue climb to circuit alt (usually 1000ft AGL).
- Turn left/right again - if any other traffic in the pattern, call downwind.
- When runway 45deg off the shoulder, turn left/right again - if any other traffic in the pattern, call base.
- Turn onto final, report final and landing request (hold off, touch 'n' go, full stop), expect clearance as requested.
Circuits are a great GA practice tool.
EDIT: Finally, a page that explains circuits for idiot dolts like me... http://www.avsim.com/geoffschool/combined/circuit.htm

How about Euroharmony has its on Wikipedia set up on this site, were users can add information for others to use, like a knowledge base. I'd gladly add stuff over the summer. ;)
-
For training in ATC, we'll have to find close active airports.
For Unicom training, I recommend Birmingham to Coventry. They are very close airports.
I've had a few problems with my mic, so I might not be able to teach Voice, so Murray will have to do that.
I think another big thing is Charts. When I fly offline, I rarely use charts, but when I'm online, I'm always using the things!
The way I use charts are the Airports I fly to the most, I have all the charts printed off, and they are in a booklet that I just pull out whenever I need it. If I don't have the chart, I just have it as a saved page in the internet. That way I can pull it out and look at it. The Only problem with that is you have to have a mental picture of the chart in your head, because It's annoying to keep on looking back everytime you get a new instruction, so I have all the charts for Schipol, Heathrow and Brussels.

Tim,
It's really funny that you say that, I've been thinking the very same thing - a wiki for EHM (MT, I haven't actually said anything about this yet, I know...) might be helpful for a number of situations (not least of which, the VFA/Training department...)
-
thanks for the link, Murray!
I think a EHM wikipedia would be great;D
I could get more help that way;)
-
I would love to do that! I could help with the making of some topics.
-
Tottaly OT, but whats the PP and how do you get the Dakar award on your badge generator?
-
Tim,
PP is ProPilot :)
And to get the Dakar award you (a) needed to take part in and complete the Dakar PP event, and (b) use the online avatar generator rather than the offline badge generator - http://fly-euroharmony.com/pilots/badge/<callsign>.png
.

How do you get the award?
US Airmail tour!

If Iian is reading, I just need to say I was a bit confused after takeoff, and when you're tired is not the best time to fly.
