Hi folks,
I heard a rumour that the A380 project is delayed for at least half year.
I heard that the airplane itself is superb, but the on-board entertaining centers, and the lots of interior variants caused a lot of troubles for the French designers, and they need to delay the real start for half year...the project leader already took off from his position because of the mistake.
Anybody heard that too ?
-
Yeah, but actually it hasn´t been cancelled. It´s been delayed (the deliveries). It seems that not only the customers requests in relation to the interior variant and passengers´entertainment, but also some Sotock Exchange operations made by Nöel Forgeard and his family, was the cause of his dimission.
Don´t know how this matter is gonna be solved but everything seems that there are some stormy cumulonimbus in front of Airbus future.
For more info check out a magazine called Avion Revue (is a Spanish aviation magazine, it´s published abroad Spain too, but I don´t knowin which countries is sold too).
-
I didnt even hear of it, all i know is that SIA is getting it at the end of this year
-
Thanks for the correction ;) I changed the strong words, because do not want to scare anyone ;D

Boeing is always the best.....:]
I support Airbus only to see more different planes at airports....imagine 1000 737 at each airport.....:[

That's one for me, Javier!!
For all those not in the know, Javier and I have a strong (yet friendly) Boeing vs. Airbus thing going on... ;)
-
Hey! that dosent count...
-
You have already lost....Javier,it seems that each team you support is going to loose...Why don't you try a match between Scarlett Johanson and Cameron Diaz?? For me they are the best....maybe I can play for Jennifer Gardner....:]

why does this happen to me?:%:]:'(
-
I bet for Miss Díaz and miss Johansson.
Sorry, Javier;D:];)

To all members,
Sorry to seem heavy handed here and I hope this does not cause offence, this topic started as a discussion of the delay to the A380 and as it is in the Real World Aviation section, many of us would prefer it if the topic remained the same throughout the thread.
I would hereby kindly request that we return to the topic in hand, if other OT discussions are necessary then please start a new thread in the Crewroom or better still U2U or PM each other so as not to clog up the forums with posts that other members are forced to read through to get to a post that has any significance to the hobby we all enjoy.
Many thanks in advance,
-
Thanks Phil ;)
BTW, Javier, what do you mean by SIA ? I thought the first few planes will go to Quantas and Emirates...
-
I guess SIA means Singapore airlines. oficially this is the first airline in receiving the A380
-
Slightly off topic (I'm sorry if this offends you Phil), but will airports have to modify much to accomodate the A380?
-
Sure they have to ! They need to install "double-decker" gates, and maybe some larger lounges for the much more amount of passengers.
-
Singapore Airlines is the "launch customer" of the A380, thats why it had titles saying first to fly....
-
Ben, it does not offend me when we are relating to the topic in hand. When it veers off on tangents that include Actors and Models (or subjects such as Airbus v Boeing which are covered in many other threads) I find myself not reading or ignoring a large number of posts just to get to the meat in the sandwich. I hope you understand where I, and believe me, many others are coming from.
Getting back on topic slightly!
In addition to Roberts answer above, most airports have had to strengthen & widen both Runways and main taxiways to accomodate the A380. Currently the upgrade cost for Heathrow is in excess of 450 Million pounds!(that is just for 6 stands, 3 terminal airway gates, Runway and Taxiway upgrades) Currently there are less than 20 Airports worldwide capable of accepting the A380 under normal PAX operations.(http://www.airbusjapan.com/pdf/a380/a380airport_compat.pdf)
-
Well, maybe the extreme costs for airport upgrades will be worth it? The A380 can carry around 850 passengers and crew at full capacity, so I think that's quite a lot of money!! Although, it will take a while for the A380 to fully mix in with the airline industry because of the few airports that can handle it... but maybe over the future years it will pay back?
-
Well if the airport is going to see more and more people....more people = more profit! Its allways worth it :)
-
In Madrid, at Barajas Intl. Airport we are ready to receive any A380.;D New terminal T4 has been designed in order to provide the A380 double-deck fingers as well as taxiways and runways which its wide are of 60 meters.;)
-
José, has the terminal only been designed or is it already built?
I wonder where the first A380 flight will be from?
-
Singapore airport is ready to receive it too;D not sure what the first flight will be but i say it will be out of Singapore
-
yeah, I've confirmed. the first A380 flight will be out of Singapore with Singapore Airlines;)
-
rumor has it first flight is from Changi to Sydney intl....
-
maybe it is,maybe it isn't...well...we have to wait to see! But no doubt the A380 will have the first flight with Singapore Airlines;D
-
Hi all,
just done two long haul flights with Singapore airlines, and I read that SIA is the first airline to fly on passenger route the A380. They want to fly it on the "cangaroo rute" that is Singapore, Sydney, London. I read also that they will fly it first during the summer2006 (but I am not sure about this). I think that this date will be delayed after Airbus problems.

The T4 terminal building entered in service in February and is the largest civil building in Europe. By itself can deal with 35 million people a year and its used by Oneworld alliance airlines.
Don´t know where th first A380 to land in Madrid is going to come from. But the fact is that here in Madrid we are ready.;D

from an article on www.airportbusiness.com:
Airbus said it will make good on its promise to deliver the first A380 to Singapore Airlines before the end of the year, but would likely limit delivery of the aircraft in 2007 to nine, instead of the 20 to 25 initially planned. Deliveries in 2008 and 2009 also will be scaled significantly, the company said.
-
It's a good thing we haven't ordered any A380. I have just seen on airportbusiness that Airbus has once again reduced the number of A380 they are going to delivere in 2007. First it went from 25 to 9, and now it gone down to fewer then 4.
-
Yep heard on the radio today that Airbus have announced a 10 month delay to Emirates.
-
They are saying 1 will be delivered in 2007 on PPRUNE!!!!! This will be in October to Singapore Airlines. Also Emirates is "Reconsidering" it's order! I will bet you money that Emirates will now be the launch customer for the 747-800 Pax version!
-
When is the 748 coming out, 2008, 2009?
-
748 Freighter will be delivered in 2010. Pax version is not yet confirmed as there are no orders yet!
EDIT Sorry......
747-800 Program
* Launch - November 2005
* Final configuration - fourth-quarter 2006
* Rollout - third-quarter 2008
* First flight - fourth-quarter 2008
* Certification and entry into service - September 2009 (Freighter)
-
Well, if Airbus lets Emirates down then there might be one order right there ;D
-
if i remember correctly, i saw on the newspaper that the A380 is coming to SIA this year December, if not, im going to have to rush and make plans to see it land:]
-
That will be an exciting sight for you Javier... the only planes that land at the airport near me are daily shuttles to Auckland :[
-
and if it lands on rwy 2L or 2C, i'll be able to see it land over my head, much like St.Marten;D
-
You could lay on your roof with a video camera and a bowl of popcorn and video it for all of us!! ;)
-
lol, i could video tape it, yes, but not from the roof of my house, its no where near WSSS
-
Well Javier then you just have to wait until oct 2007 when the first A380 is to be delivred:)
