oh man i cant wait... still 2 days
wasnt it made for DirectX 10 and Vista ? Wonder how it will do on my PC...
-
WOOHOO!!! now i can show my parents that it is worth the money;D$$$;D
-
3 october......that is going to be remembered as a fantastic day!!! Does anybody knows if FSX works only for Windows Vista???
Paolo Mazzoleni EHM-1612
-
No - it will work on XP too.....if they just released it for Vista it would be suiside, because vista hasnt even been released as final yet and isnt likely till next year.
-
It'll be "optimised" for Vista/DX10, but as Conrad points out, Vista may not be out for another year at this point (late summer 2007 seems possible to me), so a Vista only release would be suicide (;D)
There's a lot of discussion in Intarwebland as to whether they'll ship both versions on "one disk" or offer an upgrade to the Vista version at a later date - I'm hoping for the one disk option.
Pre-orderers: Where are UK folks pre-ordering from? Looking for cheapest, rather than first to ship. My current machine has troubles with FS2004, so a day or two won't upset me overly.
And also: Differences between FSX Standard and FSX Deluxe - Deluxe has the new "Shared Skies" tower, additional aircraft, and an SDK included.
-
One day or two ;D........after I can get mad too....
But I have to say that I love my FS 2004.....I sepnt on it 500+ hours and I learnt many and many things....I hope nobody will forget it......;)
-
do i need to register to download it?
-
yes i think so, you need to be logged in.
Only 15 hours to go....
-
d**n, i cant register as i dont have a credit card:@ now i cant get that demo:'(
-
just sign-up for their free account.
https://secure.gamespot.com/rps/signup/free.php?xsiteid=6
if link doesnt work, go to "Join gamespot" at the top of www.gamespot.com and select the free account (on the right side of screen written in gray)
hope it works
-
Thanks Nichlas, this should be fun!
-
If anyone actually manages to get it in the first hour or two, don't forget to seed it as a torrent (and leave a link in the forum)
I know MS get upset by people sharing via torrent (expect a "Cease and desist" letter stylings) but it'll lighten gamespot's load just a little...
-
im going to be up late tonight doing gb event stuff and euroharmony stuff so ill be around for the download :) - will seed it at some point :)
-
Thanks for that, Nichlas;D
-
Well, I've got a paid-for Gamespot account, and as such the benefit of the high-speed download servers, so I may well be in a position to seed it too... ;D
It was for all them others that I was thinking...

FSX Release date:
3 October...... North America - Europe ??? October.
And what about the selling price, and Microsoft hasn’t giving any clue about system requirements.
System requirements read this Flightsim.com (http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/notams06/fsx0104.htm)
Be aware its marketing trick to get subscribers on Gamespot:
Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/microsoftflightsimulatorx/index.html) - For the FREE SUBSCRIBE USE : >Gamespot-FreeAccess (https://secure.gamespot.com/rps/signup/free.php?xsiteid=6)
Subscription upgrade to total access-Gamespot: Note:
You must be at least 13 years of age to register for a GameSpot account and 18 years for FHM.
MONTHLY - $5.95 per month
ANNUAL - $3.33 per month
Whow to download demos aagghhhh..*$#~*…
Any FS user is part off the marketing strategies off Microsoft, a promotion movie shows only the best things off FSX and says nothing over the system requirements.
So conclusion think before you buy, or better wait till nov/dec and watch the preview/experience from first time buyers
(But those first time buyers are mostly users off high performance systems who can spend a lot off money.)
For my own system it’s upgrading on 15 aug. to
Asus P5HW DH de Luxe with Intel Core-2 Duo E6700 and 2Gb-ddr2-6400/1000 Ram and
ATI X1800 Silent video with 256Mb ddr3. (It’s a compromise).
Also a silent CPU cooler and silent PSU 550W
I’m also think to buy 2 new harddrives 200GB/10000rpm in Raid configuration its 50% faster drive access.
But I wait to end 2006 begin 2007 to buy FSX.

Well, here in the UK the RRP (recommended retail price) for the two versions are:-
Standard - 49.99UKP
Deluxe - 59.99UKP
I'll hold my tongue for now with regard the rest of your post. Suffice to say, I've been following certain reviewers with regards FSX, and those reviewers that have seen Beta 2 (which I am pretty sure is what will be released tonight) say it is a whole lot smoother than Beta 1 (as seen at Comdex et. al.), and that's on current hardware under XP. Me, I shall see once it downloads to home tomorrow.
-
Ok I have just started downloading it. Looks like it could take a while though. A transfer rate of around 5kb/sec so it should take 35-40 hours! Thats a long wait. Hope it's worth it!
-
LOL Tom, well I have come in to work late (due to having no internet at my new home yet) to set my laptop downloading. As a paid up member I am getting 80k a second so should have it a bit quicker. There will be hundreds of torrents files by tomorrow morning so I wouldnt worry about having to wait 40 hours for it!
-
The download rate has gone up now anyway so it should be 8 hours though i am sure it will go down again. I had never thought of torrents, nice idea!
-
Feck sake, 10kbps....had 133bits per seconds earlier time was in the thousands at that point :P
-
Mine's loading at a range from 5.8kbps to 6.2kbps, 30 hours...
Murray: after seeding it(i dont know whats that), will i be able to download it faster?
-
When downloading, mine suddenly cuts out at 10% and the "installer" is there (on my C-drive) but i cant open it. anyone with this problem?
-
Javier,
"Seeding" refers to BitTorrent. If you don't already use it, grab a BT client (Azureus or BitComet, the only two I'd use) and then search the net for a torrent of the demo.
Like I said above, expect to see a torrent link from me when it finishes here (getting 116Kbps as a paid member...) if you can't be bothered with the rate capped download rate.
-
Javier, i have the same problem... Mine also fails, i dont know if it is at 10%
I think its because the connection is so bad that it finally cuts it
-
Javier/Nichlas - welcome to one of the big problems with Gamespot's unpaid servers... they have a nasty knack of dropping connections, especially on popular/big downloads (took me a dozen attempts to get the Prey demo...)
My download at home (which I started before I left for work this morning) is claiming 36 minutes to go, after which I'll seed it onto the Torrent "network" and drop a link here.
-
Well i got mine installed fine - pics are in the screenshots......excuse my bad system :P
-
its on Fileshack now...
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/9240/Flight+Simulator+X+Demo
There you have to wait line, but is guaranteed good speed...
EDIT:
No line right now, downloading at my full line speed
On free accounts the line is capped at 500KB/sec !!
-
You can also get it from the microsoft website at a recent download speed i think
Edit: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulatorx/downloads.html
-
Here's a link to my torrent of it...
http://webmail.liquidthinking.co.uk/~murray/fsxprereleasedemo.exe.torrent
Isn't seeded yet (having problems connecting to the tracker...) but should work peer-to-peer ok. It'll be up until I get home :)
NOTE: In a quick test from work, there are 2 seeds and a load of peers for this demo, so get it before MS close it all down.
-
I am very impressed by the screens...the trees for one look a big improvement....and i also like the new interface...
-
Thanks for the links! that one from microsoft, is downloading 15times faster than the one from gamespot;D
-
I downloaded from fileshack. Took just half an hour. And what can I say. I am very impressed! You know that feeling when you get something new and you just want to press all the buttons and see what happens? Well that is what FSX does! There are so many new things. The cars and boats moving about really add realism to it and the cockpit and vc are incredibly detailed. Also the updated ATC screen seems easier to use. And for anybody worried about it working on their system I am using a 6 month old laptop and it ran fine. Just as well as FS9 actually. The only bad thing about playing the demo is that part of me is disappointed going back to FS9 and I don't want to wait for months to buy the full version!
-
Observations from my install/setup:
With similar settings, I'm getting similar frame rates, but FSX looks nicer at those similar settings.
With everything but weather maxed out, and Clear Skies chosen, it runs (frame rates feel better than 5fps...) but only just. As long as I point it over water rather than land it ticks over nicely ;)
And having never been to Princess Julianna, think I'll be flying there tomorrow in my FS2K4 setup... Did the visual approach on the second attempt (tried it last night, but that was before I reset all the controllers, so my joystick and yoke were fighting for control of the ailerons and elevators, making aircraft control "interesting"), but for some reason the brakes are locked on in FSX (made roll out easy though...)
-
Have had a great time playing with settings etc on this while I have had no internet. I must say, although there are still a few bugs which I am sure they will iron out before release, I am mega impressed with it. I have the settings maxed out and my system still gives me playable frame rates.
-
I know that everybody must be extremely bored with the demo by now. I mean there's only so much you can do with 2 airports! But believe it or not there are addons released already! Just thought you all might like to see this. I haven't tried it yet though.
