Hi there Niels, from what I know I think FSX runs best on Vista ;)

Well Vista and FSX with a full 64bit system is best with Intel DualCore giving you the best performenc and highest price.

Well you could be waiting a long time for Vista - the operating system hasnt even gone into the RC2 yet!

Go for XP - Vista will be buggy when it comes out at first. But if you buy a very good computer, then when vista is stable and out in the public, then all you need to do is buy vista.

I have been beta testing Vista right back in those early builds, and i can tell you - i will not be moving from XP/Server 2003 for a long time ;)

Neils,

Do you really need to buy now? One thing that will give you a massive performance boost when Vista finally comes is a DirectX 10 GFX card. They are not yet available but buying a system with a pricey DirectX 9 GFX card now will mean you won't see the benefits of DX10 until you upgrade your GFX card which will probably set you back a cool 400euros when they first hit the shops!

Phil,

At some point of time you've got to buy something new, there will allways be something better in development.
But... it will last a few weeks before i'll order the new stuff, we'll see what's in stock then, thank's for your comment, i'll keep in mind anyway

cheers

I agree neils, these things can go on for ever, that is why my system tends to change one bit at a time instead of all at once! :)

How many people could afford to update everything at once anyway?? I'd love to have that money ;)

Very nice Neils!!!!! That should give you some stonking FPS for a while! Are you putting FSX on it? If so, let us know how it works!

Well Phil, not for a while i think. Reading all the problems with FSX on this forum, i better stay with FS9 till MS brings up some patches to resolve this.

Philip,

I couldn't resist it when i was standing with FSX(Deluxe) in my hands in the store, so i bought it.
after putting all the setting sliders  to the far right, FSX runs at 7-20 fps(max fps set to 20). This is the default instalation, no 3rd party software and traffic set to 100%

I LOVE YOUR COMPUTER!

But I wonder - how much more different is FSX to FS9? Is it worth the money in that respect?

I bought FSX. Luckily, my comp is powerful to hold both, but FSX is a lot slower, because of all those cars, and moving traffic around the airport. It's a good feature if you have the right specs.

I would say, stick to FS9, and just think it over, and read a few reviews. All I'm going to say, is that FSX is a brilliant computer game, which has state of the art graphics, and amazing textures...if your comp is strong enough.

WOW, I LOVE FSX

What a stunning world, those graphics are marvelous. And i tought that FSX was just FS9.2, how wrong could i be!!!

It may be an attack on the hardware, but wow

Glad you are liking it but if your PC is finding it tough, then there is little hope for the rest of us!!! :)

Still curious how (and if überhaupt) they arranged the wiring and stuff on the inside of your coolermaster case (still remember the horrors i had with mine... Just cant stand dangling wirelooms - even though you cant see it, knowing they are there is already sufficient - so i made and fixed the needed cabletrays out of aluminium myself). Will check it out next time i'm on Texel.

Anyway, from what i have read about FSX, i will stay with the trusty FS9 for a while. FSX does seem to me your mentioned version "9.2": It still has the rusty ATC FS9 did, AI traffic still does whatever it wants (and does so badly), and the only really new thing for me is basically the upgraded graphics engine (which guzzles system resources!) Matter of taste ofcours but from what i have seen i really don't like the mirroring MS created on water surfaces. Are they trying to depict a real world, or some sort of "never-never land" where all is nice and shiny?? Such things put me off.

But... if you're happy with it, be my guest.

Enjoy and have fun!
Stef
