Title: Runway at LIRQ and Dash8
Post by: EHM-1570 Bruce on November 05, 2006, 12:50:51 pm
I have just tried to fly the Dash 8-400  out of Florence LIRQ, however the nose gear starts to bounce then collapses after a few hundred feet, I have tried several times from either end of the runway with the same result. I have found out what the problem is, it is due to the runway surface which is Macadam and the Dash 8 does not like Macadam. I have used AFCAD to change the surface to Concrete and now the Dash 8 takes off fine. Hope this helps a few pilots who fly into Florence, as the gear will also collapse on landing if the runway surface is not changed.

Same happens in LFBD and LOWI....

I think that the problem remains in the aircraft cfg file of the dash 8. Because it hapened to me the same in an non-macadam runway, even at slow speed. :'( I´m not expert in editing cfg files, but i´m sure that in EHM there are people who know how to fix that problem. :%

Right, nice to hear that Robert. Please inform when the aircraft is OK;)

Oh god ! It took me 2 days to sort it out...I do not know who made the Dash-8 dynamics but he has a very strange thinking of flight dynamics.

It seems the Dash front wheel got giga loads ;D and that kept it on the ground. When I changed the payload according to real coordinates, the plane started bouncing on the ground ;D

It seems the plane is now perfect. I may ask some money from the developers after retouching their works ;D

thats great news Robert - i like the Dash and will be flying it again soon...... i think you should start your own development company......;D

Hi Robert

That is really good news, will there be a new config file to download, or will we have to download the aircraft again?

I am now uploading a small dynamics patch to the aircraft page. Unfortunately there is a weird effect remained: at idle speed, with parking brake set, the airplane is tend to shaking...you will see.

I am trying to solve that too.

yeah i tried that last night - the problem of the front wheel giving way is fixed ( which is great ) but it is now shaking for me even when at a slow speed with the parking brake off?? :s

Yes I realized that shaking effect. It comes from the engines, and at the moment I do not know how to solve it. But it stops at me when releasing the parking brakes.

I never seen this effect before ! But I guess it has something to do with the strength of the brake system.

Well actually the DHC-8series shake when throttle is applied with brakes applied, like when powering up before takeoff.
It might help to feather the propellers???

I am afraid it comes from the enormous torque that the DASH8 engines generates. It have a unique 5000 SHP engine with a unique 1200rpm propeller speed. This is 2 times power of a general turboprop, making 3 times more torque...maybe simply FS cannot handle this power. I will try to analize the situation.
